Description
For sale is a very very rare record from the Jazz artist MOONDOG. This self-titled release is from 1957 and was released on Prestige. This is a super old record! Pretty special.
I’d say the cover/jacket is in VG condition, especially for its age. It’s thick cardboard with a glossy finish. There is a bit of separation in the jacket on the very top, some wear on the edges, and unfortunately, the original owner of the record (one Sharon Ryan) made sure to add a sticker of her name to the top left and right of the back cover, and then on both sides of the record. You can also see some strange blue coloring I assume she did as well. This is a common thing to be seen on early 60s teen group albums, so I was surprised to see it on this vintage Jazz release. Still, things like this are to be expected when it comes to something so old.
The vinyl is in great shape. It was dusty but has cleaned up very nice and shiny. I played through the whole record just today and was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounded!! There is a decent amount of crackle and hiss when you start either given side of the record, but the noise is quickly outspoken by the glorious music. The tunes are catchy and beautiful but with some really fun Avant Garde production elements mixed in.
I have made a video of starting each side of the record, and also playing snippets from Side A and B. Its 3 and a half minutes long but gives a decent idea of how it sounds when you’re spinning it loud!!
