In one of his last interviews Zappa stated that, “sounds are for people to listen to,” while summing up all the different types of instruments and objects he used to make sounds over the years, a true motto from the musician who spent three decades creating some of the most avant-garde art rock. His body of work was incredibly vast with 62 albums of original work released during his lifetime and about 30 more since his death in 1993. Released in 1967, one year after ‘Freak Out’, ‘Absolutely Free’ expanded impressively on The Mothers already extraordinary multi-genre output.

Summary:  Decent all-round copy of Mothers of Invention, Absolutely Free, 1972 Verve label re-issue. Clean gatefold sleeve, clean labels, vinyl retains its sheen, some small feint lines. Plays through clean – although there are 4-5 pips from a small mark T1S1.

Sleeve: Solid MacNeil Press gatefold sleeve. Fully readable and proud spine, all edges true and square, no rips or tears, just light corner rub /shelf wear. No grubby finger marks or discolouration (see photos). Has small initials on inside top left corner, graded EX-

Labels: Clean labels, light spindle marks only (see photos) graded EX

Vinyl: Nice copy which retains its black sheen. Visually looks EX+ under bright light couple of light surface marks, some small feint lines from sleeve removal only visible under light (see photos) graded EX-

Audio: Great sound quality no hisses, distortion, skips, sticks, jumps or crackle – there are 4-5pips  however T1S1 caused by a very small mark which is only visible with a magnifying glass - graded EX- (would be EX without the pips).

Postage: as a private seller (sell about 30-40 albums a year) I only buy the same number of mailers/stiffeners, so end up paying a higher individual price than dealers (prices went up 20-25%). The price of Postage goes towards these costs. 99% of posted albums are in NEW mailers. Thank you.

I have tried to be honest and transparent in my description - the photographs form part of the description. Questions are welcome, don't hesitate to ask. I have good feedback (and positive comments) as both a buyer and seller, so you can buy with confidence. I have been a collector for 47+ years the few records I sell are either the results of upgrades or duplicates or a bit of thinning every now and again as this is. If anything is not as expected, please contact me straight away, and I will do everything to resolve any problems without argument.

I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - as an additional guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
