Nirvana : :Local Anaesthetic 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st press 1971 Vertigo

This very collectable first pressing plays with stunning quality with no interference as such.  The vinyl has been so well preserved and not played very much and that is reflected in the audio.  The clarity, depth, power and warmth of the audio is sensational and I have only graded the first track on S2 as Near Mint with all the other grading as Mint- or better!  The epic 'Modus Operandi' on S1 is stunning.  Even that Near Mint could be considered a little harsh because there are no clicks, pops or static just 4/5 minor static ticks, nothing intrusive.  I have never heard a version as 'clean' as this and it easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic in my opinion.

The gatefold is in superb condition also with very little wear and it would be difficult to find better.  The original poly-lined Vertigo inner remains in very good condition.

Visual description

The vinyl is in great condition and still has a strong glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Looking under a bright light I can see some faint hairlines but they are superficial as they have no affect on the superb audio.  In 'normal' lighting it is stunning!  There is no groove wear or 'bag rash' and the Vertigo labels are in superb shape with no marking and only minimal spindle wear.

Play grading

The intro on 'Modus Operandi' has only a couple of very quiet statics at the start and then plays with perfect clarity.  Once the actual music kicks in the playback is superb and it continues in the same precise way through the opening vocal section and beyond.  I noticed a couple of statics around the three minute mark but they are quiet.  The first quiet instrumental / vocal plays with incredible clarity and again there is no intrusion on the audio.  There's no need to dissect every section here because having listened to every second I can confidently say the remainder of this opus plays with stunning precision.  The louder passages play with great power and depth and the quieter sections more than keep up the standard.  Running at over 14 minutes this has to be the most 'complete' example I have ever heard and Mint- is richly deserved.  Even the fade out plays perfectly, it truly is a stunning version.

'Salutation' the first part of 'Home' on S2 has a couple of static sounds on the intro and then the 6 second pause is totally silent.  From then on it plays with stunning clarity and the opening vocal section is so clean and precise.  The standard does not drop as it progresses - I heard a couple of minor statics ticks so I will say Near Mint but the vast majority is certainly better than that.  There's click at the end of the fade out but that's in the dead wax.

The intro on 'Construction' is so close to perfect with only a couple of mega light statics and Campbell-Lyons' opening vocal section is 'as new' with no background.  The other vocal / instrumental section once again play with unbelievable clarity and warmth.  There are a number of quiet sections and yet aside from a couple of minor statics the playback cannot be faulted.  The 'choral' end section is stunning!  Mint-

'Destruction' plays with sublime quality from start to finish without any background.  Once again the depth and resonance of the audio is top class and Mint is deserved here.

The piano intro on 'Re-Construction' plays so clearly with just the one static sound and as the drums come in the playback is just as strong.  The first vocal is flawless and from then on it plays with impeccable quality and again there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  As good as the day when first released this has to be graded as Mint- at the very least.

The very brief 'Fanfare' ends the album with great clarity and no interference.  Mint all the way.

The Gatefold & Vertigo Inner Sleeve

The cover is in superb condition with minimal shelf wear.  The edges have hardly any rubbing and the wide spine is still strong with a little wear on the corners and some rubbing on one edge near the top.  The right hand corners have only light wear and the opening edge is in great shape with only very minimal 'crimping' near the top.  The front cover is close to perfect with just one very faint circle below the Vertigo logo and the back cover is stunning, you can only see minor rubbing on the corners.  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate with only a couple of minor specks.  This is more than likely the finest example of this gatefold that I have ever seen.

The Vertigo inner sleeve (dated 0470) has no side splits and just one very small tear on the central aperture.  It has some light marking and creasing but nothing excessive.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
