Description

Norman Granz' Jazz At The Philharmonic Vol. 17

(Clef Records MG VOL 17  3 x LP Box Set 1954)

This is an original 1954 3 LP Box Set pressing. Manufactured in South Africa. This box set was only issued in the USA and South Africa at the time. There is no UK release. It has a heavyweight textured black leatherette style box which is hinged at the spine. It has a paste-on front cover & spine. It has an excellent "David Stone Martin" front cover too. All three records come with their original plain paper inner sleeve. There is a polythene "inner" inner sleeve too. There are also two original paper dividers or spacers also. The records are pressed on heavyweight, almost shellac style, vinyl. They have textured black & silver "Clef" labels & have 1st press matrix numbers. This box set is in Mono. The records play on 33 rpm.

LP 1 has Side 1 & Side 6.
LP 2 has Side 2 & Side 5.
LP 3 has Side 3 & Side 4.

An excellent mid 1950's Jazz concert. It features Lionel Hampton, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, Flip Phillips, Buddy DiFranco,  Ray Brown etc... 1954 Original Box Sets are quite rare nowadays. This is a very reasonable copy too.
