"ENCORES by the PHIL WOODS NEW JAZZ QUINTET featuring JON EARDLEY" by the PHIL WOODS NEW JAZZ QUINTET
VERY RARE Original Early Pressing 10 inch / 33 1/3 RPM LP on PRESTIGE w/ Deep Groove
This auction is for an original, first pressing, 10 inch, 33 1/3 RPM LP, mono, maroon on silver, "LONG PLAYING MICROGROOVE" label, PRESTIGE Records, 1954 release of "ENCORES by the PHIL WOODS NEW JAZZ QUINTET featuring JON EARDLEY" PRLP-191, by the PHIL WOODS NEW JAZZ QUINTET, with deep groove and "RVG" written on the tail-off. The original jacket is made of the older "heavier" cardboard and features period artwork by the artist, Dave Young. This is Wood's first 10 inch, 33 1/3 RPM format LP on the PRESTIGE label, having just released an LP on PRESTIGE subsidiary 'New Jazz." The Quintet features: PHIL WOODS-alto; JON EARDLEY-trumpet; GEORGE SYRAN- piano; TEDDY KOTICK-bass; and NICK STABULAS-drums. It's becomming more difficult to find these early 10", 33 rpm Jazz LP's on PRESTIGE, especially in nice condition.
The LP is not play graded but visually I would rate it VG+ based on Goldmine standards: Disc has retained nearly all of its original luster and looks beautiful. Both sides are virtually pristine except for a few very light scuffs mostly from sliding in and out of the cover. No apparent spindle marks. The original jacket also looks nice with some light surface wear and toning. Otherwise no writing or dings. The edges have some light wear and are solid except for some tape remnants on the upper right with an approx. 4" split. Light wear to corners. Back cover also shows some light wear with some toning on the white areas, otherwise in good shape with no writing or marks except some faint pricing in pencil on the upper left corner. All in all the cover is in very nice shape. Record ships with non-original inner sleeve. No reserve!
