1919 PATHE RECORDS-Lieut. Jim Europe-"Broadway Hit Medley/Ja-Da-"-22082-...E- 78 rpm record! Condition is used but in E- condition, record is shiny with a couple visible scratchs. See last 2 pics to see flaws. Those two scratchs are only ones on record. They both on the same side--Broadway hit medley side.
Both these sides were cut in New York between 3-7 March 1919 by Jim Europe's 369th Infantry "Hell Fighters" Band consisting of Frank de Braithe, Jake Porter, Russell Smith and Pops Foster (trumpet), Dope Andrews and Herb Flemming (trombone), Pinkhead Parker (alto saxophone), Noble Sissle (violin), Battle-Axe Kenny (drums) and other unknown musicians. Jim Europe directed the band.
On May 9th 1919, During the intermission of a concert they were performing. James (Jim) Reese was stabbed by fellow bandmate Herbert Wright with a pen knife. Jim would later die from the stab wound hours later at the hospital. Months after recording this record. James Reese Wright was granted the first ever public funeral for a Black American in the city of New York.
