Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Label Conditions: Two lovely clean, fresh examples with only three or four light spindle marks. Another from the collection of hardly played records I have been offering lately, purchased from new by one owner who put his ‘P’ initial on his earlier record labels. This initial as usual very small, fine and neat.

Album Information: Regarded by some at the time as a low key self-indulgent album that was issued around the same time as Let It Be by his former band. Now after the dust settled and time moved on, this is now regarded far more higher and rightly so. It’s a very personal album – a brave record that differs considerably from any Beatles sounding records. In fact this is a very good album indeed and for me one of the best ‘post-Beatles’ albums ever. The inner gatefold shows a bearded McCartney with his family on what looks like a holiday setting. The label gives all credits to Paul and Linda for songs and production, even instruments, so this is a solo album proper. It includes the lovely single ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ which is one I have always enjoyed and there are few wasted moments on this impressive Apple album. This a fantastic hardly used example that plays with clean sound and devoid of pressing issues. The cover also impressive and has been cover-protected.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): the outside faces better still. A fully laminated gatefold format. Printed and made in England and includes the white Apple inner sleeve with the PATENT NO. 1.125.555.

Lamination – Front & Back: The laminate retains excellent shine, freshness and clarity with no lifting which is quite unusual for this one. That a real plus on a very dark cover as lifting will always show more on these. Only gentle traces of rim impression from the quite heavy record, but minimal traces of any dulling or even creasing. This retains genuine freshness and quality good looks and has totally defied its considerable age due to being cover-protected.

Cover Inner Gatefold: The only issue on this is the bottom edges where the laminate line ends were stuck, a common trait on this cover and I have seen few with none. Being left closed and undisturbed for many years almost makes this inevitable. The laminate inside is ultra shiny and fresh with barely any trace of creasing. Against-the-odds, the laminate on the central fold is uncracked and tighly attached, smooth and uncracked. Some lovely vintage pictures of the young family and all seen to near maximum advantage.

Top Edges: Both immaculate, very smooth, straight with no scuffs and even these retain superb shine.

Bottom Edges: As above.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Both clean, very sharp with any thickening minuscule. Record enters on the back edge, the front is closed and both are guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with any compression gentle and light. Also folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and very close to parallel. These spine types often form recesses from opening which this has largely avoided, any central crease here fine and light, so only mild sinkage of the fully intact spine text. Also this retains nigh-on full laminate coverage without the usual heavy cracking and peeling. The surface very smooth with no scuffs or laminate flaking or loosening – again, this quite unusual.

Corners: All corners are immaculate and practically devoid of wear or creasing. Superb crisp shape retained with no knocks or dinks.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this early 1970’s cover, one that could prove difficult to find much better. Often fraut with laminate problems which this has avoided to any great extent. The only blemish of any note the bottom edge inside pulls that few seem to avoid. This attractive item should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT: a plain solid white unlined inner that has the PATENT NO. 1.125.555. text. The paper only very gently darkened with a few quite mild creases, all edges unsplit with no repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(–): a few mild paper scuffs and light surface marks seen more under light. Still a fine visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and solidly pressed. A copy with modest plays I feel sure. No penetrating stylus scratches, that the crucial factor, the record plays very clean and impressively with very little unwanted at all. Visually still a nice looking record that should please many collectors, but like the cover, not for purists or the more discerning with some superficial mostly light surface marks.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This more elusive Paul McCartney debut album plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything of note to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Few available copies will outperform this early pressing for high audio quality I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, and the visual blemishes with no audio affect*. Nothing of any note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this vintage Apple record. It could prove difficult to find significantly better and can be highly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
