GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : Piero Piccioni e Alberto Sordi, oltre alla grande amicizia che li ha uniti e alla collaborazione professionale, hanno sempre avuto una comune passione per la descrizione della quotidianità di persone abitanti fuori dall’Italia e dei paesaggi delle loro nazioni, il primo come compositore l’altro come attore e regista. Si trattava d'immagini e di musiche che coincidevano con la realtà ma nello stesso tempo se ne distaccavano percorrendo strade ricche di magia e incanto per sedurre occhi ed orecchi degli spettatori. Su questa linea "Il Diavolo" (1963) con Sordi presente solo come attore, dove veniva splendidamente raffigurato il fascino nordico della Svezia, "Fumo di Londra" (1966) dove alla battaglia tra mods e rockers si contrapponeva il magico incanto del castello della Duchessa. In questi films come in altri che ho omesso per non annoiare troppo, ritroviamo costantemente due filoni: uno romantico, magari pure velato da tristezza e nostalgia con conseguente utilizzazione di composizioni per pianoforte e orchestra d’archi, un altro più concreto e razionale adatto a musiche popolari, danze, jazz. E' quanto avviene per il film girato in Australia. Una tormentata storia d'amore con lo sfondo di questo grande Paese. L'album inizia con un suggestivo tema descrittivo ricco di sognante liricità a cui fa seguito (a2) una bossa molto particolare con organo e vocalizzi femminili in risalto. "Incontro all’Aereoporto" (a3) può essere classificato come brano lounge per la sua atmosfera rilassante dalla ritmica moderata sostenuta dall'organo Hammond con batteria e basso a supporto. Insistenti percussioni unite al suono del basso creano un dinamico tema carico di tensione in "Fuga nella Foresta" (a5). "Giuseppe e Carmela al Night" (b3) dalla fumosa atmosfera di un vecchio locale notturno con sax e pianoforte impegnati in un brano jazzeggiante di buon gusto. Tastiere, percussioni e basso eseguono interessanti sonorità dalla struttura jazz in "Shopping in Sydney" (b4). Sentimentalità caratterizzata da malinconia e delusione ma anche da speranza sono ben espresse dalla liricità dell’orchestra nelle ultime due tracce (b6, b7).

Notes : Piero Piccioni and Alberto Sordi, in addition to a great friendship that united them and to the professional collaboration, have always had a common passion for the description of the everyday life of people living outside of Italy and for the landscapes of their countries, the first as a composer, the other as actor and director. It was a matter of images and music that coincided with reality but at the same time deviated going through ways full of magic and enchantment seducing eyes and ears of the audience. Along these lines "Il Diavolo" (1963), with Sordi as actor only, where the northern fascination of Sweden was beautifully depicted, "Fumo di Londra" (1966), where to the battle between mods and rockers was opposed the magical charm of the castle of the Duchess. In these as in other films that I omitted not to bore too we find constantly two currents, the romantic one, even veiled by sadness and nostalgia with subsequent use of compositions for piano and string orchestra, and another that is more concrete and rational suited to folk music, dances, jazz. It is what happens to the film shot in Australia. A tormented love story against the backdrop of this big Country. The album begins with a suggestive, descriptive theme full of dreamy lyricism which is followed by a very peculiar bossa with organ and female scat singing in the foreground, (a2). "Incontro all’Aereoporto" (a3) can be classified as a lounge track for its relaxing atmosphere by moderate rhythm led by Hammond organ with drums and bass in support. Insistent percussions combined with the bass sound create a dynamic theme reflecting a tense situation in "Fuga nella Foresta" (a5). "Giuseppe e Carmela al Night" (b3) from the smoky atmosphere of an old nightclub with sax and piano engaged in a jazzy and tasteful tune. Keyboards, bass and percussions perform interesting sonorities by the jazz structure in "Shopping in Sydney" (b4). Sentimentality characterized by sadness, disappointment but also by hope are well expressed by orchestra lyricism in the last two tracks (b6, b7).
