Description
A Saucerful of Secrets 1/1 (very early stereo pressing)
This is the first stereo release on the black Columbia label with the white Columbia logo and only one EMI logo. It is in excellent condition and comes complete with the laminated cover with three flipbacks and Gilmour is printed as Gilmore on both the labels and the cover.

Visual grading
For an LP approaching half a century it is visually in amazing condition. It still has that wonderful glossy sheen and only has two obvious hairlines on Side One but have no affect on the audio I can't describe just how good this vinyl looks and looks almost as new! S1 has only three spindle lines and whilst S2 has more it is obvious this record has only been lightly played.
Play grading
After a few seconds of initial static on 'Let There Be More Light' the audio is astonishing considering this was released in 1968. There is just a hint of static during the remainder of the track but the clarity and depth is exceptional. Apart from a couple of pops during 'Remember a Day' the audio again is of a very high standard with only a little static. For such a quiet track 'Set The Controls...' plays very clearly with no pops or jumps, just some intermittent static. 'Corporal Clegg' as is so often the case plays with some distortion and this is caused when the grooves are pressed closer together so as to 'fit' onto the side. However, it still plays very well with no other interference.
The title track 'Saucerful...' on Side Two plays with a little crackle here and there but is not intrusive and the audio remains strong and very clear. Once the organ begins the audio is very impressive. The crackle is only very quiet and compared to so many early pressings this is a high quality version. The last few minutes of this track are particularly good. 'See-Saw' has a little distortion but still has impressive sound with barely any interference. 'Jugband Blues' is very possibly one of best versions I have heard on such an early pressing and plays with great clarity, just one pop at the beginning.
Laminated cover
The laminated G & L flipback cover is in wonderful condition after all these years. The edges and thin pinched spine are in exemplary condition with one tiny area of wear on the bottom edge. The laminate on the front cover remains in excellent shape with no bubbling or splits anywhere and has only a few small creases around the edges. The two corners of the opening edge have a little rubbing and the opening edge itself has some handling wear although only minor.
The three flipbacks on the reverse are in superb condition with no staining which is so common with this LP. They only have a handful of small creases. On the flipback top right is 'File under Popular : Pop Groups' and underneath is SCX 6258 (stereo). Overall this is a stunning cover that would grace any collection. As per the very early presses it has 'Gilmore' on the tracklisting.
Labels
As stated the labels are in wonderful condition with only a little spindle wear. Around the bottom edge it states "Made in GT Britain - Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions. See price lists"
Around the top edge "The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorised public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited".
Inner sleeve
This comes complete with a plain white die-cut inner with patent no 1,125,555 and Made in England printed on it. It is in excellent shape with only mild creasing. Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system
