This is an original pressing bought in the UK at, or around, the time of first release. It is not a modern reissue. It is in beautiful condition and the audio is among the best I've heard.

This has the following matrix numbers:

Side one: SHVL 815 A-2U

Side two: SHVL 815 B-4U

Description
Disc: The vinyl has retained its original sheen with some small or light marks visible in normal light and additional fine hairlines and sleeve-removal lines when viewed under bright, direct light, but I have played the entire album in full from start to finish and it plays superbly with very little to report.  For the sake of completeness I would mention some minor background noise in the run-ins/outs, fades, silent grooves, segues and intros, and the occasional random click, but there is nothing significant anywhere.  Like most Pink Floyd albums Animals has lots of quiet and sparsely arranged segments and there are some parts that are always 'difficult' on original vinyl copies (both versions of 'Pigs on the Wing', the two distant dog-barking sections in 'Dogs', the  keyboard-led instrumental section in 'Pigs', the segue and quiet intro to 'Sheep', the Lords Prayer section in that track etc) but on this copy there was nothing distracting in these sections and both versions of 'Pigs on the Wing' sounded superb! On side one I didn't hear any repetitive clicks at all and hardly any background noise, even in the 'difficult' bits. On side two I heard just four or five very small clicks in the fade to 'Pigs', and a little bit of background noise in some of the quietest parts, but there's nothing bad anywhere. Animals doesn't ever sound mint on vinyl all the way through (in my opinion), but this is very close.  I would play-grade side one as a VERY SAFE Excellent (Ex) to Excellent Plus (Ex+). Side two would have graded the same, but the few small clicks at the end of 'Pigs' mean that I'm going to play-grade it as an easy Excellent (Ex), although I think that many people would grade it higher.

Labels: No tears, stickers, writing etc, just some spindle marking.

Sleeve: The sleeve has no seam splits, tears, writing, stickers etc, and very few signs of age or use. Please look at the photographs. These are really hard to find like this.

Inner sleeve: No splits or tears and minimal signs of wear, just some small signs of handling near the opening on one side.

Detracting features not covered above:  None. This is a superb example which looks and sounds great.

Where gradings are given these are based on the UK Record Collector grading system (see below) and are visual gradings only, unless the listing specifically states that it is a play-grading.

I use the UK RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM. This grading system differs from some other grading systems, in particular the Goldmine grading system. Please make sure that you are familiar with the UK record collector grading system before you bid.

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

Plus (+) or Minus (-) are added where items fall between gradings. I only ever use one plus or minus.
