Visual grading

A visually stunning vinyl there are only 3/4 faint spindle traces on S1 and just one on S2.  This has been hardly played and the audio confirms that.  It has a fantastic glossy sheen and I cannot detect any obvious hairlines at all and there are certainly no scratches.  A superb example of a quadraphonic pressing.

Play grading  

There is some light static on the intro and thereafter plays with very clear audio.  There are a small number of light clicks and the odd dust tick but for an instrumental piece with so many quiet sections the audio is of an excellent standard and there are many sections I would classify as Near Mint the clarity is that good.  The depth of sound is very impressive and the bass sound is incredibly strong on this quadraphonic pressing.  There is not very much 'background' at all and I must emphasise how clear the production is, you can really tell the difference.  The vast majority of this classic plays with stunning sound quality.  So yes a small number of light 'ticks' but no crackle, a wonderful version.

S2 plays in a similar fashion with only a little 'background' but nothing that is intrusive.  'If' plays extremely well with only a minimal amount of mega light static here and there.  'Summer 68' is superb, a hint of static on the intro, but wonderful definition from then on.  What a version!  Rarely have I heard this track playing so cleanly - the louder brass sections play perfectly and with no distortion.  Aside from the intro static this track is not far off a Mint grading.  The very quiet 'bells' intro on 'Fat Old Sun' play with stunning clarity and only a couple of mega light dust ticks.  It continues to play with breathtaking audio and the guitar solo plays with great precision and there is no interference on the fade out whatsoever.  Again you can hear the 'bells' so clearly something that is so often lost on vinyls with more interference.  'Alan's Psychedilic Breakfast' has exceptionally clear audio with only a handful of very light dust ticks.  Totally non-intrusive and a stunning version overall.  The many quiet passages play with a precision that is so rarely heard and about 99% of this track is Mint the clarity is that good.

Gatefold

This is a wonderful example of this G&L gatefold and the Quadraphonic catalogue number can be seen top left on the inside.  There edges and spine have no shelf wear and even the corners remain in great shape with only a minimal amount of wear on the top right corners.  The opening edge has no handling wear at all.  The front and back covers are extremely clean with no marking, there is just one very faint sticker residue mark on the former.  The inside of the gatefold is in immaculate condition.  This is probably the cleanest Q gatefolds I have ever seen.

Inner sleeve

The die-cut 'Care of your Record' inner sleeve has no splits, just some creasing here and there.

The labels

The yellow/green Harvest label have no marking or writing and are super clean, as new.  As stated only a minimum of spindle lines on the S1 label and just one on S2.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
