Description

PINK FLOYD "Ummagumma" 1969 1st PRESS *FACTORY SAMPLE*

STUNNING COPY, 1/2 PLAYS ONLY, BEAUTIFULLY CLEAN SOUND

PINK FLOYD
Ummagumma

ORIGINAL UK HARVEST (SHDW 1/2) FIRST PRESSING (November 1969) OF PINK FLOYD'S SUPERB DOUBLE LP SET, "Ummagumma" - CONTAINING ONE LIVE LP OF FOUR LONG TRACKS WITH POSSIBLY THE DEFINITIVE VERSION OF 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' - WHICH SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, AND A SECOND LP OF FLOYD AT THEIR EXPERIMENTAL FINEST WITH EACH BAND MEMBER GIVEN SPACE TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN PSYCH WORKOUTS

AND NOT ONLY IS THIS FANTASTIC SET IN ONCE/TWICE PLAYED, CAREFULLY HANDLED CONDITION - DELIVERING BEAUTIFULLY CLEAN AUDIO THROUGHOUT (WHICH IS INCREDIBLY RARE, AS THE RECORDS HAVE MANY QUIET, ALMOST SILENT PASSAGES COMMONLY SPOILT BY EXCESSIVE SURFACE NOISE)
BUT IT'S A *FACTORY SAMPLE* COPY WITH THE "FACTORY SAMPLE - NOT FOR SALE" STICKER PRESENT ON BOTH RECORDS

PRESSED ON TWO QUALITY MID/HEAVYWEIGHT RECORDS WITH THE FIRST HARVEST YELLOW/GREEN LABELS WHICH CARRY "The Gramophone Co. Ltd." RIM TEXT AND HAVE NO EMI BOX LOGO
AND WITH THE SIDE FOUR PRINTING ERROR: "The Gand Vizier's Garden Party"
FIRST ISSUED MATRIX: SHDW 1 A-1 / SHDW 1 B-2 and SHDW 2 A-1 / SHDW 2 B-3
MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 3/RT, 2/AG and 2/MM, 1/A
THE LPS ARE HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL OUTER LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE “Printed in England by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London” DATE CODED '6911' (1969, November)
AND THE SET COMES COMPLETE WITH THE TWO ORIGINAL PLAIN WHITE POLY-LINED, DIE-CUT INNER SLEEVES - THIS RELEASE PRE-DATES THE USE OF THE HARVEST ADVERTISING INNER SLEEVES WHICH WERE NOT USED UNTIL MID-1970 (and feature the QUATERMASS album - which was not even recorded when Ummagumma was first released in November 1969)

Track Listing:

Side 2: Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun / A Saucerful of Secrets

LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with only one (possible two) light spindle trails per label - this copy has clearly hardly been played - MINT-
VINYL Visual: Both records retain their original deep glossy sheen, are practically unmarked and shine like new. Record One undulates lightly when revolving on the turntable but this has absolutely no effect on the audio reproduction - NEAR MINT
VINYL Audio: Pink Floyd's soundscapes cover an amazing dynamic range from the smallest, almost silent details to the loudest crescendos which makes it difficult to find early pressings which will play without excessive clicks/pops and/or surface noise - but this copy plays beautifully throughout - certainly one of the cleanest I have heard. On playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listing and it's always a great pleasure to return to this one) there are no scratches, no sticks/jumps and barely any surface noise (which is incredibly rare). There is the occasional (not unexpected) light 'click' (nothing continuous or intrusive and really very, very few and these are mostly on the quite beginning of "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" - but nothing at all major). The sound quality throughout these two records is simply sensational - crystal clear and clean, rich, strong and vibrant and they both play beautifully to just about their highest possible standard. Very strictly, very critically and most probably under-graded (but as any of my regular buyers will know I am always brutally honest in my descriptions) EXCELLENT+++ for audio - this is just about as good as it gets and, in my opinion, a finer copy would be very hard to find
SLEEVE: The outer laminated gatefold cover is also in great condition with virtually no wear to speak of on the edges or spine - where all text is clear and bold. The outer laminated surfaces have a deep, glass-like gloss (with just a little record impression) and the untreated inside is clean and unmarked - EXCELLENT++
INNER SLEEVES: The two matching, first issue, poly-lined, die-cut inners are clean, fresh and white with no splits - EXCELLENT++

AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE - VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED INDEED
