Phantom’s groundbreaking 2023 debut “Handed to Execution” returns with the sonic power it always deserved. Painstakingly remixed and remastered under the guidance of Patrick W. Engel, this definitive edition finally brings Mexican speed-thrash to its full, skull-crushing glory. Explains mastermind Singer/guitarist J.C., “we didn’t know anything about recording back then, we learned on the making. It was also kind of unfortunate since our other guitarist Harel broke his arm and I ended up recording the entire record without help while changing drummers. It was a challenge, but we nailed it.” What began as a resourceful DIY project quickly became “a very appreciated record and the one that started our way to the ears and eyes of more people around the entire world.” Born in Guadalajara’s underground in 2021, Phantom established themselves through three demos and a four-way split before unleashing Handed to Execution”. High Roller Records proudly presents this essential reissue, replacing previous subpar pressings that J.C. describes as “kind of a mess.” Every thunderous drum hit and razor-sharp riff is now properly balanced for maximum effect. Don’t miss Phantom as they tear through Europe with Brazil’s Evilcult in September/October 2025.

PHANTOM - HANDED TO EXECUTION

Phantom is a high-energy Speed/Thrash Metal band that emerged from the underground scene of Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2021 as a project "just for fun". Despite their relatively recent formation, the quartet, featuring founding member J.C. Necrohex (vocals/guitars), has achieved a frantic pace of productivity, releasing several demos, a split CD, and their debut full-length album, Handed to Execution, all in 2023. Phantom's sound is a deliberate homage to the old school "golden era" of extreme metal, combining the raw intensity of Deathrash and Speed Metal with elements of Punk. This commitment to the vintage flavor and relentless aggression immediately set them apart in the New Wave of Old School Thrash Metal (NWOOSTM) movement.

Handed to Execution, Phantom's debut album released in 2023, is celebrated for its lethal, no-frills nastiness and intense speed, often compared to the vicious assault found on mid-80s speed metal compilations. The music is a nonstop onslaught of heavy, crunchy, sadistic thrash metal that draws clear influence from the aggressive Teutonic titans like Destruction, Sodom, and Kreator, as well as Brazilian pioneers like Sepultura. Lead vocalist J.C. Necrohex employs throaty, raspy vocals that range between lower and higher registers, echoing the maniacal style of bands like Midnight and Toxic Holocaust. The album is distinguished by its frothing riffs, ravenous percussion, and a "buzzsaw tone" that perfectly distills the best aspects of 1980s thrash metal.

The journey of the album's production is notable, reflecting the band's DIY roots and ambition. Initially recorded with challenges—including a broken arm for guitarist Harel O. and a change in drummers—the first pressing was described by J.C. as "kind of a mess". However, the album was still highly appreciated and helped Phantom gain worldwide recognition. In response, the album was painstakingly remixed and remastered in 2025 by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, giving the music the "sonic power it always deserved" and transforming the debut into its definitive, skull-crushing glory. Tracks like "Winds of Havok," "Handed to Execution," and "Speedhammer" are key examples of the band's vicious, rapid-fire style.

The album's success is a testament to the enduring appeal of raw, uncompromising speed metal. Critics often note how well Phantom slay that blackened vein, leaning heavily toward speed while possessing a clear "old school venom". The cover art and overall presentation, including their logo featuring a dripping blood axe, contribute to the aesthetic of a "Neck-Wrecking Witch Metal" band, ensuring Handed to Execution is an essential listen for fans of the new underground thrash metal movement. Phantom has successfully channeled the vigorous energy of the 1980s and is now considered a significant part of the global black/speed/thrash metal scene.
