Description
For sale the rare quad release of dark side, released in 1973 on Harvest.
This LP will play on Stereo equipment without a problem but was basically made for equipment which can play 4 different channels with a special amplifier. On a stereo you hear some interesting differences especially with regard to the Gilmour guitar work which seems to take on a new life with different licks.
The ending section of Breath is stunning and really sounds different to the standard vinyl issue, seems to have a lot more attack really. There are many differences in this quad mix and it's quite startling to hear it on a stereo set up when compared to the one I've heard for years and years.
The cover has no seam splits , has a little rubbing to the corners, very little intact.
The LP is visually really quite exceptional but on listening it does seem to have a bit of background tick , not scratches , maybe due to static I don't know, this is evident on time , breath and the Great gig in the sky.
I don't know if it's a common thing to these as others recently sold have been listed with a similar background issue.
it looks really really good. It's a puzzling one for sure as it looks in tremendous condition. I don't find this intrusive to my listening of this album, actually when you hear it you seem to concentrate on the obvious differences in the mix compared to the standard issue to be honest.
The record collector grading for VG says played Many times but this album visually looks as of it hasn't , can't see any surface marks to be honest under house lights etc.
Vinyl looks 8.5 - 9 to me
Sound Quality 8 ( no distortion ) May be due to static I don't know needs a deep clean with a Keith Monks perhaps ).this is my impression maybe to you better I don't know
Sleeve 7 ( inside picture in the pictures I have listed is a trick of the light there are no marks to the right side panel! , it's a reflection ).
All in all a conservative VG+ rating across the board. For cover LP and accessories.
Comes with pyramid poster , x 2 cards and original inner Quad sleeve
matrix numbers side 1 - A2
Side 2 - B1
I have just played this LP again and side 1 I would say has more background but it is in the background as has been mentioned on other listings?. Side two especially US and Them is amazing to hear, I bet on a quad capable system the voices and echoes on that track blow you away.
It's a very enjoyable listen quite a revelation really.
As mentioned this mix is absolutely startling and is like chalk and cheese compared to its stereo counterpart.
Gilmours work on Any Colour You Like is totally different in parts.
Anyways enough waffling from me!
