Trailblazing sound from the Pixies. Hard edged surf pop, squealing guitars over motoric bass lines, while Charles and Kim holler and croon through Albini's lo-fi aesthetic. Some of the bands' best songs combined with a slew of breakneck mosh pit catharsis. Great for driving to. Perhaps, in retrospect, an album that relies too heavily on sound and fury to get it over the finish line at the expense of song-craft; some of the tracks sound a little "under-developed", particularly on the second side. But a classic nonetheless. Lovely 4AD artwork is the cherry on the cake.
Record plays perfectly, no scratches Outer sleeve is in a white unvarnished matt finish and as a result has inevitably picked up dirt marks with time, but is still sturdy and without much wear to the edges and corners. The original inner sleeve is a three colour print and is still in very good condition, but the vinyl is beginning to cut through on one edge of the sleeve, see the photos.
