Description
I am selling a complete Queen collection I recently purchased and I have to say there are some real beauties in there! Many are in superb condition and as always I will be giving a complete and honest grading.
This first press of A Night At The Opera is in excellent condition. Under a bright light there are a few hairlines but nothing serious - for a 2/2 not a 2/3 you won't find too many better! There is one that probably would affect the sound quality across second half of The Prophet's Song.
The matrix numbers are YAX 5063-2 and YAX 5064-2 with the famous Blair's etched into the dead wax, not Mr Blair's cut as per the later presses.
The stampers are 3 / GGT and 1 / GOM
The Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold cover is also in excellent condition with only minor wear. There are some small marks to the front and rear cover but is so much better than so many. Being a first press (2/2!) it doesn't have the glossy sheen of later versions and of course has the famous embossed crest. The thick spine is in superb condition also and is 100% legible.
Side One I would grade as Ex
Side Two is Ex- The gatefold cover is Ex-
The picture sleeve with the cut corners - later copies have rounded edges - VG++ (two inch split at the bottom where the record has worn through)
The labels are Near Mint
