Description
This first press of A Night At The Opera is in excellent condition. The vinyl is certainly one of the best I have seen for a first press. There are only a few very faint hairlines that won't affect play, I believe created from when the record has been removed from the sleeve. Blair's is etched into the dead was denoting a first press not Blair's Cut or Mr Blair's Cut as per later presses. Overall in fantastic condition for nearly 40 years old.
The Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold cover is of an exceptionally high standard. With hardly any wear and tear there are only a few very minor marks on the cover. Very small pen mark on the rear. It is still a very clean copy and there is no wear to the corners and the spine is perfect, 100 % intact. Being an early press it doesn't have the glossy sheen of later versions and of course has the famous embossed crest.
The matrix numbers are YAX 5063-2 and YAX 5064-2 - Stampers are 4 / MO and LD
The vinyl I would grade as Ex+ The gatefold cover is Ex++
The picture sleeve (with cut corners) is Ex- (two inch tear at bottom of sleeve)
The labels are Mint
