Description
On offer here is a superb first press copy of "A Night At The Opera". It is one of the best copies I have seen.
The matrix numbers are YAX 5063-2 AND YAX 5064-2 with the famous Blairs (not "Blairs cut") etched into the dead wax which confirms it as a first press.
The mother stampers are G 1.1 1.1 and RPP
The vinyl is in amazing condition. Side 1 I'm confident to grade as Ex++ as under a bright light I can only detect one faint hairline on the first track. Side 2 again is Ex++ as can only see one hairline on track one. I do not think either would affect the sound quality. Perhaps I'm being too harsh in my grading as many would grade as Near Mint-
The Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold cover is also in excellent condition and looks incredible with only slight wear to the bottom right hand corner as well as the price sticker. There is no discolouration which is so common of this classic LP and being an early pressing doesn't have the glossy sheen of later versions and of course has the famous embossed crest. On the left hand side of the crest is the insignia "Crest Design c Queen Productions Ltd". It is not known how rare this is but there are certainly more copies without it. The open edge is in excellent condition also as the solid spine which is 100% legible.
The picture sleeve with the cut corners is in Ex++ condition with only slight wear at the bottom of sleeve.
Overall this copy is in fabulous condition and has obviously been extremely well looked after. I highly recommend it!
