HELLO, AND THANKS FOR VIEWING THIS AUCTION! Today, we have for your consideration with NO RESERVE, this RARE ORIGINAL 1955 RED VINYL Doo-Wop 45 rpm record by The Charmers on the Timely Records label, #1011. Listed in Tim Neely's 6th Edition Goldmine Price Guide To 45 rpm Records on page 136 with a value of $1000.00. Also in Jeff Kreiter's Vocal Group Record Guide on page 414, this record was only bootlegged on black vinyl.

In late 1954 (November/December) the Timely record label issued the Charmers’ I Was Wrong/The Mambo (Timely 1009) on 78 and 45. In late spring of 1955 Timely released their last record by the Charmers’ The Church on the Hill/Battle Axe (Timely 1011) on 78 and promo red vinyl 45s. The Apollo record label bought the independent Timely label in the summer of 1955 and the stock commercial copy of the 45 was cancelled due to Apollo’s ownership of the label.

 SIDE 1---"BATTLE AXE"--(vinyl retains gloss and grades Strong VG, super clean label. Etched dead wax numbers are: T-5221.)

Side 2---"THE CHURCH ON THE HILL"--(vinyl retains gloss and grades VG+, label is very clean with minor wear around the centerhole. Etched dead wax numbers are: T-5237.)

VG++ : Nice label, any scratches will be light and does not affect play.

VG+ : Light to minor wear on label, minor surface marks/scratches on vinyl, plays well.

VG : Used record and may retain gloss, surface scratches and scuffs are present,  minor to moderate wear on label, plays ok unless otherwise noted.

VG-: Well played with abundant scratches and scuffs, label may have tears and other wear, plays with background noise, pops, etc.

G : Mishandled and abused, label damage, may have severe scratches and scuffs.
