RICKY NELSON's FIRST! "RICKY" with A TEENAGER'S ROMANCE/I'M WALKIN'/YOU'RE MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE/(& HONEY ROCK by Barney Kessel) (Verve EP #5048 1st pressing w/PICTURE COVER, 1958): CLEAN VG+ EP & PIC COVER!
Rare 1958 EP with CLEAN VG+ vinyl & CLEAN VG+ cover. The EP plays M- & the cover has no writing or splits. It presents beautifully with only minor ring wear. The right-hand corners & the bottom seam are worn but not split. One of the record's labels has a faint sticker shadow (see last photo). Other sellers might grade both disc and cover M-, but you know how picky we are!
This record combines both of Ricky's 1957 debut 45s on Verve. When the EP was issued in '58, Nelson had changed labels to Imperial & Verve only had 3 Ricky performances in the can (the flip of his 2nd single was a song by Barney Kessel). Since Ricky wasn't under contract to Verve anymore, they had to put the Kessel tune on this EP, too.
Eric Hilliard "Ricky" Nelson (1940-1985) was one of the most prolific & successful recording artists of his time. He charted over 50 songs in the Hot 100 from 1957 to 1973, including 18 singles in the Top 10. He's unfairly lumped with teen idols of the late-'50s to early-'60s era; his music was far better than sterile pop waxed by the pretty-boys. With songs written by rockabilly legends Johnny & Dorsey Burnette & guitar genius James Burton backing him (until 1965), Rick's records rocked. He had sentimental ballads hit the heights, too, & was as handsome as any TV star, but he never "sold out" to the purveyors of silly sap...& he continued to raise the roof until his untimely death at age 45.
CLEAN VG+ EP plays M-; you might pay $100-$200 to upgrade it. Truly scarce & historic record will sound great on your turntable, jukebox...or put it in The Vault!
