Description

Here’s a rare and outstanding piece of early rock history  – a 1962 concert handbill from England, autographed by 8 different early rock and roll stars: Johnny Burnette, Gary US Bonds, Mark Wynter, Danny Rivers, John Leyton, Joe Brown, Billy Fury and Shane Fenton / Alvin Stardust.

The signatures are on a May 1962 poster / handbill / broadside / ticket order form for a Rock n Twist USA concert in Mansfield, at the Granada Stage. The paper measures 11 ½” x 8 ½”, and is in vg/ex condition, with some older tape repairs on the reverse seam, and a few fold lines. The address area has been filled out, but it is still attached.  It looks great framed, and will be shipped in a two sided Plexiglas frame.

Each autograph is listed: 1) Johnny Burnette (dec. 1964) A rare signature, and an important, influential American rock and rockabilly pioneer. He grew up in Memphis as a contemporary of Elvis Presley, and founded the Rock and Roll Trio in 1956. Worked with Ricky Nelson, and wrote several of his hits. Had hits of his own, including “You’re Sixteen” which was covered by Ringo Starr. 2) Billy Fury (dec. 1983) A major English rock star, with dozens of hits from the late 50’s – to mid 60’s. (An interesting side note – the Beatles once auditioned to be Fury’s back up band, but WERE NOT hired. Oooops. ) 3) Gary US Bonds – Had #1 single “Quarter to Three” in 1961 and several other hits. Collaborator with Bruce Springsteen.

4) John Leyton – British singer and actor who was also in the movies “The Great Escape” and “Von Ryans Express”. 5) Mark Wynter – English actor and singer with four top 20 singles in the 1960’s. Eventually became a noted theatre actor. 6) Sahne Fenton – became Alvin Stardust in the early 1970’s. Had some hits in the 70’s, as well as some with Shane Fenton & The Fentones. 7) Danny Rivers – early and brief rock career in the United Kingdom, his song “I’m Waiting For Tomorrow” was a favorite of Robert Plant. 8) Joe Brown – A recording star of the early 60’s, he was a close friend of George Harrison, and is still actively touring!
