Description
Hello vintage vinyl record collectors and music aficionado's world wide. Up for auction is something very rare. In fact, I would go so far as to say this record (and in this mint deadstock condition) has never been available on Ebay . A needle has never touched this particular record!
Once again, This is a mint deadstock copy of:
"Let's Go" & "Dream Angel" by Bobby Williams & his Royal Flairs.
The record is from the obscure SAM Records label - Riverside, California SAM - "Sounds And Music" record #119. This was what we refer to as a "small Mom & Pop" operation.
Now for the amazing and almost unbelievable story.
Bobby Williams' real name is Bobby Everhart. He used "Williams" because he grew up listening to Hank Williams.
From Council Bluffs , Iowa, Bobby was a professional DeeJay in Omaha , Nebraska during the late 1950's and early 1960's. While working at the radio station he received many Radio/DJ newsletters that not only featured new songs but advertisements for recording studios, Record labels, as well as publishing companies. This is where Bobby discovered "Leona Leivas Publishing Co." (Sam Records) out of Riverside, California.
After several phone calls an agreement was made to record the songs "Let's Go" & "Dream Angel" , then send the master to SAM Records for manufacturing and distributing of the record. This was the spring of 1962 and by summer Leona Leivas (SAM) only made 125 records (nothing by todays standards) , distributed a handful to local radio stations in southern California and a small stack to Bobby Williams at his radio station in Omaha Nebraska. After that, everyone waited to see what would happen. towards the end of summer of '62 Bobby Williams and the band contacted SAM Records after not hearing much of anything but was told that local Inland Empire radio stations like KMEN 129 were giving the song "Let's Go" some air play.
Then in September of '62 Bobby and the rest of the Royal Flairs turned on their local station and heard their song done by a California group who called themselves "The Routers" on the Warner Brothers label ! This new version ended up reaching #19 on the Billboard charts. Leader of the group Bobby Williams stated that "although pieces of the song were added/changed , the core melody line, structure, and title were taken from our song , and without any knowledge!" Having their songs taken from them knocked some wind out of Bobby and the rest of his band. By early '63 a small stack of "Let's Go" 45's were returned to SAM to do with as they pleased. This small stack as well as a couple other records from different groups stayed dormant for a half century until their recent discovery.
Partake in Rock & Roll history folks. This doesn't happen too often so don't hesitate to bid on this ultra rare find . Will sell and ship this anywhere in the world.
