Description
Gabriel Formiggini mit seinem Orchester play two good tunes, "Static Strut" (Phil Wall/Jack Yellen) and "Black Bottom" (Henderson/DeSylva/Brown), on Electro-Vox 8443. The first side has a hot, uptempo arrangement with clarinet, piano, and sax solos. The second side is sedate by comparison, but has a few hot passages. English vocal refrains on both sides. (I can't recall hearing someone sing "Static Strut" before. It's not easy, especially at that tempo!) Recorded in Berlin in February 1928.
This record is in VV+ condition generally, with some gray grooves and light ticks here and there. At the very end of "Black Bottom," there is a needle dig that ticks twice but passes. Both sides are pressed slightly off center, but not enough to detract from the music. The center hole is slightly enlarged, but centering the record is no problem. There is a little writing on both labels. Despite these flaws, the record is enjoyable.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing. I know how to pack records.
