RARE JAZZ LP: COOL SOUNDS FROM KANSAS CITY Marilyn Maye Bettye Miller Tucker MJW
Modern Jazz Workshop MJW101. 1958 release featuring early Marilyn Maye sides with the Sammy Tucker Trio, prior to her own LPs, plus the Bettye Miller Trio with Milt Abel and Al Bartee; instrumentals by the Sammy Tucker Trio; and the Arch Martin Quintet. Live recording produced by the Modern Jazz Workshop, an organization that presented concerts by Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams and others at B’nai Jehudah Temple and other locations. There is respectful audience applause at the end of each number and after solos. Tracks include tunes written by Ellington, Sonny Rollins (“Doxy”), Cole Porter, et al.
Record is VG++, very light handling wear. Jacket VG+. light ring & corner wear.
