SIX-EYE LABLE - A VERY RARE ISSUE TO FIND !!
A bluesman of legend and tales that NO other player has ever had about them before or since - and he would have known NOTHING about the ensuing fuss surrounding his short life!
He was purported to have been a chancer with a guitar, who got laughed off the street by fellow buskers around the time. The disappointment must have been bitter, because he surely turned it around by learning his chops down so well, that no-one can quite figure out how he got so damn good. Luckily, he got sequestered for a couple of recording sessions that saw several 78's issued - otherwise he'd have never been heard ever since. Even then, he took a moonlight wander to end up in a jail cell, beaten by the local sheriff just for being black and on his street.
He was a lad who must have thrived on confidence, and he was just as assured about women... to the point that his gallavanting got him poisoned by an enraged jilted female suitor, so the story goes,
He was being sought out for a live blues festival show, but it was already too late and he was 6feet under.
Tales abounded about meeting the devil at the crossroads to trade his soul for guitar virtuosity, and recently there was film footage that got dispelled for including any glimpses of Johnson himself. Thus only two photos exist of him in his dapper suits - one a booth shot with almost 'ferrel' eyes glaring back, and the other a smiling fellow in his Sunday best. The legend will live on and probably grow, but there won't be another like him I doubt.
Listen to the wonderful adept fingerwork on those frets, realizing that these were one-take recordings with vocals and no overdubbing!
He practically rewrote the book for blues, a truly incredible talent.
The vinyl is visually VG++ to VG+ with good sheen to the vinyl.
Listening reveals some light needle wear on the loudest parts, a couple of pops, (and of course there's the background sound from the original source tapes) but still a very respectable player.
The Lables grade EX
The original cover here is EX-, having light wear & slight corner damage.
The ORIGINAL inner sleeve is included.
A decent copy of a very rare blues gem!
