I'm going to start with a quick note about the rarity of original pressings of  'Sticky Fingers'. In my opinion, 'Sticky Fingers' is one of the hardest of all vinyls of the early 70's to find with top audio, and in great all round condition. I'll explain why...

The early 70's saw what was undoubtedly a great creative period for the Stones, (many of course would say THE great period) but the production of the vinyls was notoriously patchy. Mick Jagger has spoken at length on the subject, often stating that he wants to re master the great stones records of this time. On saying that, clear playing 1st pressings were made, but they are unbelievably scarce. And it was of course a highly popular album which meant that people played them to death.

And then, there was that zip. The innovative design by Andy Warhol himself, including a real working metal zip, meant that the vinyl's AND the covers would become instantly destroyed, either in transit, while packed on display in the shops or just sandwiched in the owners record collection.

So finding a pressing that has a gleaming vinyl, that has Top clear Audio, and a cover not torn or highly scratched by being stacked against other zipped covers in the stores, is now almost impossible. To find an original pressing with a great cover and near perfect audio makes this an extreme rarity.

Sticky Fingers is the ninth studio album by The Rolling Stones, released in April 1971. It was the band's first album of the 1970s and its first release on the band's newly-formed label, Rolling Stones Records, after having been contracted since 1963 with Decca Records in the UK and London Records in the US. It is also Mick Taylor's first full-length appearance on a Rolling Stones album, and the first not to feature any contributions from founding guitarist Brian Jones.

With the end of their Decca / London association at hand, The Rolling Stones would finally be free to release their albums (cover art and all) as they pleased.

The artwork for Sticky Fingers — which, on the original vinyl release, featured a working zipper that opened to reveal a man in cotton briefs - rubber stamped "THIS PHOTOGRAPH MAY NOT BE-ETC." — was conceived by American pop artist Andy Warhol. After retailers complained that the zipper was causing damage to the vinyl (from stacked shipments of the record), the zipper was "unzipped" slightly to the middle of the record, where damage would be minimised. The album features the first usage of the "Tongue and Lip Design" designed by John Pasche.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR AUDIO GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - Superb sound quality throughout!

Original pressings of 'Sticky Fingers' often have a dull sound, with experimental recording and mastering techniques being employed in the making. There were a very small quantity of pressings that came out with bright, clear audio, and this little played pressing is one of them!

This great record plays up to the visual grading and beyond. Strong, undistorted sound free of repetitive noises. Super strong bright audio with minimal distractions, the album plays right through with absolutely NO distortion, jumps or repeating unwanted noises what so ever. Superb sound, every minute and track has been tested and I could find no obvious sound blemishes. Some light occasional static only, and it is light and very occasional. Wonderful TOP audio, NO sticks or jumps what so ever, and virtual silence between the tracks. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals which come through with tremendous power. As with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. I'll give a detailed account below:

Beginning with the iconic 'Brown Sugar', the music bursts in with crystal clear audio, no loud pops or clicks and nice clean run ins. The run in is so clear that you can hear a two second background of the 1st track, that is nearly always covered by even light surface sound. There are a few static tics but even they are very quiet. Moving into the wonderful 'Sway', which demonstrates The Stones incredible subtle production layering, with notes and effects that are usually lost on most even relatively played vinyls. Here the audio sings out with amazing clarity. There are a few light static tics between tracks but then the music comes in with amazing clarity.

'Wild Horses', a real test on this  album due to its many layered quiet sections sings out with very little static in the run ins and quiet areas. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. A couple of tics in the middle, but not a hint of distortion. In fact I may as well confirm now that there is not a hint of distortion anywhere on this great vinyl. I did hear a single very light click between track, and thats it. 'Can't You Hear My Knockin' plays with crystal clear sound, and the long instrumental section layered again, sounds great. Superb clear bright sound, amazing. Leading back into the paired down 'You Gotta Move', the vinyl again plays with super clear sound. This track is so paired down and here you can hear every single note and plectrum sound. Amazing.

Side 2. bursts in with the incredible 'Bitch', following near silent run ins, it sounds fantastic, with extremely clear audio. There is some background static at the start, but its far in the background. Again in the the long delicate 'I got the Blues', the audio is just superb, with some light static only, and extremely clear vocal layering. 'Sister Morphine', the other delicate track also sings out, with great clarity and an amazing lack of surface sound. This quiet track is nearly always blighted with loud pops, clicks, buzzing crackle and distortion, but not here. There are a few tics between tracks, and a couple at the very start, but they are light, the audio is just superb. All the way through every track plays with incredible definition.

The complex arrangements in 'Dead Flowers' play so well, with astounding audio precision. A total lack of loud pops, clicks, interference, and certainly no distortion anywhere on this great pressing, makes this a truly incredible collectable press of this great record. Rounding off with the delicate 'Moonlight Mile', it play superbly, maintaining the high audio standard set by every other track on this lp. A few light static tics and a couple of pops near the start only, the audio jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals which come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars multi layers come through crisp and clear. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten. A great all round example of this great vinyl, with amazing audio throughout!

A great all round example of this classic Stones vinyl. This is a great Audio pleasure and I would have to give the Audio an EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT grading.

THE RECORD - VISUAL GRADING

Due to the unique zip covers, the Vinyls of Sticky Fingers nearly always have deep gauges caused from the back of the zip being pressed into the record. This one does not! I'll repeat, there are NO indentations to be found on this vinyl, as it has been stored from new separately from the cover.

A lovely piece of HEAVY glossy vinyl. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original early pressings, this vinyl has been barely played, and in daylight it looks unplayed. The record has great shine, with NO scratches. There are a few ultra light sleeve removal marks, and just some (very) light handling marks, seen under an intense spotlight.

Grades at NEAR MINT.

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

LABELS

Splendid deeply coloured attractive examples.  No wear around the hole areas, with all ink uneroded and fully intact. Virtually no spindle traces to be found, just one tiny line on each side. The vinyl still fits tightly around the record spindle, and when I tested this record it felt like it had never seen a spindle before.

Grades at NEAR MINT.

COVER

Comes with original ANDY WARHOL sleeve, in superb condition. This is a great complete example of the brilliant Sticky Fingers cover, designed by Art Star Andy Warhol. Being thick matt unlaminated card with the famous belt buckle design, these covers rarely fared well, usually having heavy ring wear and tears, with the belt buckle being ripped off and a lot of yellowing to the background. Not this one! It has no tears or splits, again very hard to find.

It has virtually no rubbing to the edges of the spine, and barely any corner wear. The spine even has clearly defined 'pinched' ends, clearly separated by the makers marks. Unbelievable and impossibly rare like this!

The buckle is fully intact, with a slight crease, as shown in the images. The top edge is square and un frayed, almost un heard of with these covers. There are a few of the usual zip marks in the form of a few light indentations on the back, and none of the usual usual heavy scratches. (as seen in the images below, Sticky covers were stacked together on the shops so the rear covers always have the mark of the cover that was behind it, but not on this one)  The cover is almost like new with very little of the yellow / toning that these covers always suffer from with age.

A wonderful original first press example and extremely rare in this condition.

Easily grades at EXCELLENT.

THE INNER

Comes with Original UK "British Patent", MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN Inner sleeve, in EXCELLENT PLUS CONDITION. No tears, splits or stains. The vinyl will of course come in a replacement plain white inner to protect the original.

POSTER INSERT

The Record comes with the Original insert poster in great condition. no rips, tears, pin holes or blue tac marks.

This is the original heavy weight version, with the picture of The Stones on one side, and the tongue logo and text on the other.

Graded at NEAR MINT.

CLASSIC UK R&B / ROCK album by THE ROLLING STONES

RARITY

It is getting harder and harder to find good examples of early UK pressings of STICKY FINGERS, and very hard if not almost impossible examples that are complete and intact with all the Original parts.

The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear and a torn buckle, even modestly worn examples are scarce! This is a stunning all round piece. With TOP AUDIO throughout! Superb! Finding a pressing that does not have a cover and vinyl marked or even ruined by the zip, is near impossible. A great rarity.

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING:

All our records are play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. We aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound, pointing out the slightest defect so that you know exactly what you are buying. We aim to describe all records as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

Highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and what we always aim for. We only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance; super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest pressing you will find occasional static or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and we advise a light clean between plays for optimal performance.
