Rare 1968 Repress The Velvet Underground & Nico Stereo LP Verve Records #V6-5008

This 1968 Andy Warhol produced rock album is a must-have for any true rock 'n roll music fan! Featuring the iconic band The Velvet Underground and produced by the legendary Andy Warhol, this first pressing, revised 2nd release is a true rock gem!

This LP first was first issued in May 1967 with what’s called “the torso cover”. After its release MGM Records was sued as they didn’t have the right to print a picture of the band with actor Eric Emerson’s image projected upside down on the wall behind the band. So in late 1967 thru the end of the year MGM applied a large black sticker over the picture on the back cover. Then in 1968 MGM decided to airbrush Eric Emerson’s image out of the back cover and those LPs were sold in 1968 with the same exact vinyl record that was sold in 1967. So the records were the same, only the jackets were different. You’ll pay double or triple or more if you find a cover that hasn’t been airbrushed out. So the copy I am selling is from 1968 with the airbrushed cover but with the same stereo record that was available in 1967 copies.

The condition: The black vinyl is better than Very Good but just a tad less than Very Good Plus.  It comes with its original inner sleeve and original gatefold cardboard jacket, both in Very Good Plus (VG+) condition. There are no seam splits in the cardboard jacket and the spine is nice with totally readable text. The top edge of the banana sticker is missing a very tiny piece. The banana sticker has a few light wrinkles on it but is firmly attached to the jacket. The vinyl has some very light scratches but still retains much of it's original gloss. It was well taken care of.  Both labels are in excellent condition and each song is credited to Three Prong Music which means it’s a first issue vinyl stereo pressing! Side 1 deadwax has “V6-5008 MGS-558-REV”. Side 2 deadwax has “V6-5008 MGS-559-RE1”. The original Verve factory inner sleeve has no seam splits.

Overall a very nice collector copy. We grade the vinyl a strong Very Good condition. The jacket grades Very Good Plus.
