Up for auction is a rare original vintage Verve pressing of "The Velvet Underground and Nico" produced by Andy Warhol. This particular pressing is a late 1967/early 1968 stereo edition with the Eric Emerson image airbrushed from the back cover. All of the banana sticker is present, however, someone attempted to peel it off, tore the very top of it off and then stuck it back on (PLEASE SEE 2nd PHOTO FOR CLOSE UP) . The overall condition of the original gatefold cover is VG++ bordering on EX. I give it that grade because assessing the condition of any vintage item can be somewhat subjective. Personally, compared to almost every other copy I have seen over the years, I think it's a solid EX, especially for an almost 54 year old record, but please see and zoom in on photos to decide for yourself. The real prize here is the AMAZING condition of the vinyl which is visually graded as a solid EX which (as I'm sure a lot you already know) definitely deviates from the norm with respect to the vast majority of original pressings of this album. Most grade VG at best. There is some very minor scuffing from the original inner sleeve and some very faint hairlines that can only be seen under the strongest of light. These minor marks do not detract from the overall sound quality and has a play grade of a solid EX. For example, "Heroin" on this particular pressing is exceptionally clean with only the lightest of surface noise during the quieter segments. The same goes for the entirety of Side A and the vast majority of Side B. On the last track "European Son" there are two conspicuous marks and a couple of more noticeable hairlines that cause intermittent crackling and a few loud pops. As most of you already know, "European Son" is the heaviest, most discordant, and proto "Noise Rock" cut on the entire LP, so if there's going to be louder surface noise and some pops on only one track on an original LP where the vast majority of copies of this are VG at best for the entirety of both sides, this is the one track.
