More photographs from the Frey Jazz Collection...

Here's a RARE and special one, a beautiful 7"x10" print straight from the photographer's darkroom, with handwritten notation on the back (by Nancy's friend E. Imanaka, who shot the Ellington prints offered two days ago), showing the Jazz at the Philharmonic All-Stars and their Japanese welcoming committee and happy fans at Haneda Airport in November of 1953. (This photo might well never have been shown in the U.S., and Nancy may have owned the only print outside Japan.)

Present in the photo are Roy Eldridge, Charlie Shavers, Benny Carter, Ella Fitzgerald, Flip Phillips, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Ben Webster, Herb Ellis, Gene Krupa, Norman Granz the producer, and others I can't put a name to.

A nice piece of Jazz history.
