SIGNED Miles Davis LP E.S.P. Columbia CS-9150 2-eye Stereo ‘360 sound’. I am (very reluctantly) parting with this album. It has hung in a frame as the centerpiece of my office since I acquired it decades ago, and I’m hoping that it goes to someone who loves it as much as I have!

E.S.P. was recorded and released in 1965 and features ‘the second great quintet’ for Miles, which included Davis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. At over forty-eight minutes, E.S.P. is one of the longest jazz albums of its period. Weeks after recording this, Hancock would again work with Carter & Williams to record his classic Maiden Voyage (with Freddie Hubbard), reworking the song “Little One” from these sessions.

About the LP: The album was released on Columbia Records and this is the original stereo release (“360 Sound”) with the code CS-9150. The LP is VG+, showing a nice gloss and no surface marks. The outer sleeve is G+ due to a ~4” seam split in the top seam (see pic #6); it also has a light ring wear and the remnants of a tape ghost on the back cover (see pic #5). The inner sleeve is plain white with a center opening. This is an uncommon early pressing of this jazz classic.

About the signature: I acquired this album back in the 1980s from a dealer in NYC who had gotten it from a gentleman who had worked at a jazz club in Harlem where he’d met Mr. Davis and gotten him to sign the album. I’m not sure how to authenticate this for you (I won’t insult your intelligence by offering some made up “certificate”) so I’ve included photos (pics 1 and 2) and also put the album cover on my scanner (see pic #3).
