SAX 2259 UK Blue/Silver BEETHOVEN SONATAS GIESEKING This is one of a number of vinyl records from the 1950’s & 60’s listed this week which we no longer listen to. Little played, the records are still in very good condition, the covers sometimes less so. Gradings are based on the “Record Collector Magazine's Guide” set out in the eBay Guides together with notes about condition added. Extracts from the Gramophone Magazine review written at the time of the record’s release are included where these are available. To provide as accurate a description as possible of the condition of records I now listen to them using an Ortofon Rohmann MC Cartridge - which is particularly unforgiving of surface sounds. SAX 2259 UK Blue/Silver BEETHOVEN SONATAS GIESEKING IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THIS RECORD Bidders must be aware this record is either a reject or, perhaps it is something of a Collector’s Piece. Either the disc labels have been applied to the wrong sides - OR - the type setting of the record details on the cover was incorrectly set out. The side with Disc Label 1 has the Sonatas which are listed on the cover as being on Side 2. Interesting! RECORD GRADING VERY GOOD This is a very good looking record which would be graded excellent were it not for a clearly visible mark on side 1. It is what I would describe as a wide rubbing mark, about an inch long. I have played this side a number of times and I heard only one place where there were about 5 repetitive clicks. There are also half a dozen short, light hairlines on this side but they do not sound either. The whole side is a delight to listen to with only a very occasional light tick, almost certainly dust, and a single louder pop just after the start of Band 6 Side 2 has almost no visible marks at all and plays excellently with little or no surface noise. I really did not hear the surface noise which the Gramophone Magazine reviewer commented on (please see the image of the extract). Perhaps this is a better copy than the one he was given! COVER GRADING VERY GOOD The cover is clean and undamaged. Even the corners are hardly scuffed. This, too, would be graded excellent but for some small areas of laminate loss at the edges both front and back. All in all, an almost excellent copy of this lovely performance of these sonata by Walter Gieseking. I have no wish for you to be disappointed by your purchase. If you think the grading/description was unfair or unreasonable when you receive the record, you may return it and you will have a full refund of all that you have paid me. All I require is that you contact me within 7 days of its receipt to tell me you intend to return it, and that I receive the record in the same condition as it was when it was sent to you. MINT Record In brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality Cover In perfect condition, as are extra items such as thelyric sheet, booklet or poster EXCELLENT Record Shows signs of having been played, but with very little lessening in sound quality Cover Slight wear and / or creasing to the cover or its contents VERY GOOD Record Obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch Cover Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects GOOD Record Played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, and there may be some distortion and mild scratches Cover Suffers from folding, scuffed edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
