GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note :  indubbiamente Simon Boswell è un grande musicista. Basta pensare alla vasta quantità e qualità compositiva che ha svolto per importanti artisti come Elton John, The Sex Pistols, Renato Zero. Moltissime sono le colonne sonore composte per films di registi come Alejandro Jodorowsky, Dario Argento, Michael Hoffman, Clive Barker e Lamberto Bava. La sua poliedricità in campo musicale spazia dal rock, punk compreso, all'elettronica ed anche alla musica classica come ha dimostrato nell'album "Music from the Vatican - Alma Mater" contenenente la voce di Papa Benedetto XVI.

Nell'album qui in asta troviamo magnifiche ed entusiasmanti fusioni fra musica elettronica e rock oltre a qualche appropriato uso di suoni classici in un paio di tracce. Una menzione particolare desidero fare per il chitarrista che possiede un'indubbia alta capacità espressiva. I suoi riff, le sue sonorità sporche e distorte hanno una raffinatezza esecutiva pregevolissima. Purtroppo il suo nome è sconosciuto, forse lo stesso Boswell che è pure un ottimo chitarrista, ma chiunque sia, a mio modestissimo avviso, ricorda in alcuni passaggi la somma arte di Peter Green. Fra le tracce: "I'll Be Right Back (Welcome to the World of Demons)" (a1) che si apre con alcune parole in Inglese di una demoniaca voce femminile. Poi tastiere, batteria, basso e chitarra danno vita ad un infernale girone di suoni con musica elettronica, rock ed anche qualche sprazzo di jazz. "Imagination" (a3) è l'unico brano non strumentale dell'album. La canzone è interpretata in Inglese da una voce maschile affiancata in alcuni momenti da una femminile; una bella chitarra insieme al basso e alla batteria accellerano fortemente il ritmo con le loro sonorità rock. "Hungry Eyes" (a5) ha un andamento esagitato su una trama estremamente percussiva dove effetti sonori, tastiere e distorsioni della chitarra si scatenano in un'entusiasmante battaglia sonora. "Pool" (a6) è caratterizzata da un ripetuto suono simile a quello di un carillon e da un intenso vocalizzo femminile anche se in parte soffocato dalle tastiere, flauto ed altri strumenti. "Per Sempre" (b1) è un rock elettronico con grandi fraseggi e distorsioni della chitarra elettrica, intervento delle tastiere e valido supporto di basso e batteria. "Steel Breeze" (b2) è ancora guidata dalla bella chitarra seguita dalle tastiere e dalla batteria con un ritmo veloce.  Infine, "Breakfast" (b4) dove effetti sonori, piano elettrico con note classicheggianti, basso, batteria e chitarra riflettono perfettamente un'atmosfera da incubo.

Notes : undoubtedly Simon Boswell is a great musician. Just think of the great compositional quantity and quality conducted for important artists such as Elton John, The Sex Pistols, Renato Zero. Plenty of soundtracks composed for films of directors such as Alejandro Jodorowsky, Dario Argento, Michael Hoffman, Clive Barker and Lamberto Bava. His versatility in music ranging from rock, punk included, electronic music and even classical harmonies as he showed in the album "Music from the Vatican - Alma Mater" featuring the voice of Pope Benedict XVI.     

In the album here on auction we find magnificent and exciting fusions between electronic music and rock as well as some appropriate use of classic sounds in a couple of tracks. I wish to make a special mention to the guitarist for his undoubted great artistic skill. His riffs, his fuzzy and distorted sonorities have a remarkable refinement. Unfortunately, his name is unknown, perhaps the same Boswell who is also an excellent guitarist, but anyone might be, in my humble opinion, recalls in certain passages the supreme art of Peter Green.  Among the tracks: "I'll Be Right Back (Welcome to the World of Demons)" (a1) that opens with some English words of a demoniac female voice. Then keyboards, drums, bass and guitar give life to a hellish circle of sonorities with electronic music, rock and even some spark of jazz. "Imagination" (a3) is the only non-instrumental track of the album. The song is performed in English by a male voice accompanied at times by a female singer. A beautiful guitar with the bass and drums with their rock sound highly reinforce the rhythm. "Hungry Eyes" (a5) has a frenzied development on an extremely percussive texture where sound effects, keyboards and guitar’s distortions trigger a rousing sound battle. "Pool" (a6) is characterized by a repeated sound similar to that of a music box and by an intense female vocalization although partly stifled by the keyboards, flute and other instruments. "Per Sempre" (b1) is an electronic rock with great phrasings and distortions of the electric guitar, the keyboards'participation and the considerable support of bass and drums. "Steel Breeze" (b2) is still led by the beautiful guitar followed by keyboards and drums under a fast rhythm. Finally, "Breakfast" (b4) where sound effects, electric piano with classicizing notes, bass, drums and guitar perfectly reflect a nightmarish atmosphere.
