Description
This Auction is for:
ARTIST: Smokey Joe (Baugh) - This is one of only 3 listings (all for the same two songs) for this Artist, on the Flip and Sun Labels, in my Guidebook. This record was first issued on Sun’s subsidiary label, Flip, in 1955, then this issue was done on Sun in 1956, followed by a reissue as Sun 393 in 1964. All are high-value issues.
TITLES: Signifying Monkey / Listen To Me Baby – A Stock issue from 1956 with nice labels. This issue also carries Sun’s famous “Push-Marks”, although some are hard to make out. There should be 3 on each side. Please refer to my close-up Pix.
LABEL/NUMBER: Sun Records – 228 – Etched in the “Dead” Wax of the “A” side, "45-U-170". On the “B” side, "45-U-171".
SPEED/SIZE: - 45 RPM – 7 Inches
YEAR: 1956 – Please see my other Auctions for many more Sun records and Sun Records related offerings. I have a substantial collection I am working to list.
DISC CONDITION: Good or better. I test played parts of both sides and heard BG noise as well as crackling and some tics. I did not hear any skips. I felt the sound quality on the “A” side was marginal, but it may have always been that way. For comparison, I also test played my NM copy of the 1964 release, on Sun 393. It also had intermittent “scratchiness” on the "Signifying Monkey" side, so I believe it to be a problem with the original tape. I will also be offering Sun 393 on eBay soon.
SLEEVE CONDITION: Mounted in a Generic sleeve - VG+.
