ARTIST / TITLE : SPANKY WILSON - SPANKIN' BRAND NEW
LABEL : Mothers Records & the Snarf Company, MLPS-69-B, USA.
CONDITION (Record/Cover) : Strong VG+ to EX / EX
COMMENT : Swingin’ soul, songs written by Howlett Smith and arranged by the great H.B. Barnum! Spanky’s delivery is rooted in standards ala Dinah Washington but this is soul all the way, with great playing, subtle string parts & killer horn arrangements typical of Barnum. Highest level 60's jazzy soul, unbelievable voice, with cool breaks as always with Ms Spanky... Should appeal to fans of Marlena Shaw, Aretha & Erma Franklin, Salena Jones, Dakota & Candi Staton, scat singers ala Eddie Jefferson, Jackie Ross, Ernestine Anderson, Dianne Reeves, Lorez Alexandria, pretty much any soul jazz crossover vocalists. Original record is graded strong VG+ to EX because of small marks and very light scratches noticeable if you look closely, some minimal light surface noise noticeable on maybe 2-3 tracks. Overall a clean enjoyable copy, still shiny and glossy, plays EX. The cover is in solid shape and graded EX.

GRADING CODES :
M = Record in new condition, never played or looking like it. Sleeve as new.
EX = Record in superb condition, very rarely played, may present slight visible marks but no audible ones. Sleeve may present slight signs of natural aging.
VG+ = Record is really nice, may present a few visible marks which are slightly audible. Surface noise noticeable but does not really affect the playing. Sleeve may present a few flaws like light openings, ring wear...
VG = Record has been played often, presents some visible and audible marks, many surface noises are noticeable. Sleeve shows noticeable defects like heavy split seam, tears...
VG- = Record doesn't look nice because of general wear, it is in playable condition, but some/all tracks are noisy or click. Sleeve has noticeable general wear.
