This Cisco reissue is vastly superior to both the original pressing and to Mobile Fidelity's ½ speed mastered reissue…This is sublime ear candy and more importantly magnificent music making. No wonder it retains its attraction 30 years after first being issued. More proof that we're living in the second coming of analog." Music = 10/11; Sound = 10/11 – Michael Fremer,
"If you were an audiophile in the 70s, you owned Aja." – Rolling Stone, 2001, placing it No. 145 of the 500 Greatest Albums Ever Recorded
And now, in commemoration of its 30th anniversary, Aja IS BACK – IN EVEN GREATER GLORY! Remastered by Kevin Gray, cut at AcousTech Mastering, Pressed on virgin 180-gram vinyl at RTI! Aja has now gotten the royal treatment!
This reissue has been personally approved by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker as well as Aja recording engineer Elliot Scheiner.
"(Aja) is the most perfect thing I have ever heard in my life. It is a religion." – Gareth Jones, renowned record producer/engineer
Long argued as one of the (if not THE) best rock recording ever and a permanent fixture on many a demo system in the late '70s and '80s, Aja was the culmination of everything Donald Fagen and Walter Becker aspired to accomplish in their storied careers. It was the first album certified platinum (eventually selling more than 5 million copies in the U.S.) by the then-new RIAA sales tracking system. It made Steely Dan superstars. It contained three ubiquitous U.S. Top 40 singles in "Peg," "Josie" and "Deacon Blues," though each of the seven tracks are wonderful.
And then there's the sound. Deservedly winning the 1978 Grammy Award for non-classical engineering, Roger "The Immortal" Nichols was helped by a who's-who of the top audio guys in the industry: Bill Schnee, Al Schmitt and Elliot Scheiner. The meticulous recording is almost fetishistic in its attention to detail. Every note of even the densest tracks can be clearly heard, with every instrument perfectly placed.

2. Aja
3. Deacon Blues
Side B:

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 240/500!
Two names in particular spring to mind in connection with Steely Dan: Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. The two men discovered while at college at the end of the Sixties that they shared musical tastes, although they played in different bands. They subsequently formed a songwriter duo before making their breakthrough in 1972 under the name Steely Dan (a name which came from William Burrough’s novel The Naked Lunch) with their debut album Can’t Buy A Thrill. This LP remained for over a year in the Billboard charts, and the single taken from the album, Do It Again, leapt into the Top Ten. This was just the beginning of an extraordinarily successful career which lasted until the temporary disbandment of the group in 1981 (a brand new album entitled Two Against Nature has appeared since then). Every one of their seven studio albums was crowned with a Gold or Platinum Disc.
"Working as hired songwriters by day, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker rehearsed this debut in executives' offices by night. "We play rock & roll, but we swing," said Becker. For proof, check the cool lounge-jazz rhythms of "Do It Again" and the hot guitar of "Reelin' in the Years." - rollingstone
Can’t Buy A Thrill is not as "polished" as later albums, such as Aja or Gaucho for example, but their inimitable mixture of melodic rock, shot through with soul, jazzy rhythms and ambitious instrumental solos made Fagen and Becker stand out from all the others right from the very start (just compare them with the Eagles or the Doobie Brothers!). Apart from the now "classical" songs such as Dirty Work, Midnight Cruiser, Reelin’ The Years and of course the unforgettable Do It Again, it goes without saying that all the others titles are endowed with all those qualities which make Steely Dan so unique.
"If it's those extra-heavy pressings that make you salivate, this weighty gem is a Joe Louis of the reissue world. While the sound of the original was always good, this hard, carefully pressed platter seems to have more detail and presence. Of the 44 different CD and LP pressings of Can't Buy a Thrill, this is the one to have: you'll never need or want another. Then there's that glorious music... There's not a wrong melodic turn on the entire album, which was recorded in L.A. by a band of New Yorkers who would forever change the definition of soul music." - Robert Baird, Stereophile Magazine, February 2013, p. 62

“How we do it: First we hook up a sequence of sleek & slinky musical cells over which we sprinkle the most amusing lyrics. Immediately we get on the horn and round up our swinging sidemen, including but not limited to Keith Carlock (drums), Jon Herrington (guitar), Hugh McCracken (guitar), Ted Baker (keyboards), and yrs. truly, Mssrs. Becker and Fagen, on our respective axes. Next thing you know, the wiggy vocals and stellar solo work are stacked atop the now-realized grooves and harmonies. After mixdown, the finished album reveals to its makers deep subterranean themes and powerful emotional undercurrents that satisfy and surprise at the same time.”

4TH DONALD FAGEN - MORPH THE CAT - 2006 Grammy Award Winning Album
Before It Goes Away Again AND SELLING FOR OVER $300 A COPY in this VINYL RELEASE!
"This LP sounds phenomenal and is a definite must have!!! The Bass is incredible!" - Bob Bantz,
Featured in Michael Fremer's Heavy Rotation in the July 2006 Issue of Stereophile!
The first solo album in 13 years from Donald Fagen, Morph The Cat is another contemporary classic from half of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame duo Steely Dan. With Fagen's adventurous musical depth, uniquely layered lyrics and entertaining subject matter (from a conversation with the ghost of Ray Charles to a romantic liaison with an airport security guard named Joan), Morph the Cat is the newest chapter chronicling the most sophisticated music in rock.
Blending jazz, soul and a plethora of other musical influences with extended grooves and ever changing musical textures, 'Morph The Cat' has already been compared to the Steely Dan classic 'Aja' set in contemporary Manhattan. "I like it when songs develop in some way and four minutes usually isn't enough time for something to develop musically", says Fagen. "I'm still plugged into the Duke Ellington model, something akin to classical music, where you start with something; you develop a little bit and stick with it. And when you get a groove going, time flies
Built around extended, richly textured jazz, soul and rock grooves, the themes of "Morph The Cat" range from impending mortality and assorted apocalyptic scenarios to homeland security and the ghost of Ray Charles. "I don't think you can escape the environment we live in now," Fagen remarks on his songwriting strategy. "If Steely Dan has survived -- and I have survived as a solo artist -- it's partly because we've reflected what's going on around us."
Fagen's renowned lyrical darkness once more comes to the fore throughout 'Morph The Cat'. The hint of alien attack in 'Mary Shut The Gate' was written after the Republican convention hit Manhattan. "I'd much rather being fighting aliens, although there are some similarities", he says.
'Morph The Cat' was recorded in New York City and Kauai, Hawaii. The album features an extraordinary line-up of backing musicians, many of who have previously worked with Fagen and his Steely Dan partner Walter Becker on stage and in the studio. Included are drummer Keith Carlock, bassist Freddie Washington and guitarists Hugh McCracken, Jon Herington and Wayne Krantz. Fagen performs lead and backing vocals and plays keyboards.
Mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray at AcousTech, this pressing was done at RTI on virgin 180-gram vinyl!
Hoffman and Gray cut this album from the 15-inches-per-second, half-inch analog tape. "The reason it was done at 15," Hoffman said, "was to preserve the tremendous bass response."
Personally approved by Donald Fagen himself! "We're all gratified that he's so enthusiastic about vinyl," Hoffman said of Fagen. "Warner Bros. is also very enthusiastic about the medium." Morph The Cat comes in a deluxe, thick cardboard gatefold jacket and the vinyl is packaged in rice paper inner sleeves.

THEN WE HAVE THESE BONUS TITLES
STEELY DAN GAUCHO 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP1980's "Gaucho" was Steely Dan's final album before embarking on their 20-year sabbatical from recording together again.
The recording of "Gaucho" was long & laborious, and one particularly treasured song, "The Second Arrangement," was tragically lost, having been accidentally erased by a careless engineer. That Becker & Fagen finally finished the album despite all of the behind-the-scenes problems must be considered a great miracle. Just seven tracks long, "Gaucho" is easily the lightest, most laid-back album in Steely Dan's catalog, but that certainly doesn't make it bad. It's a wonderful, handsome disc, filled with the fine quality jazz/pop & production skills that the Dan are famous for.
"Babylon Sisters" is a fine, slow & steady shuffler. "Hey Nineteen," the big hit from the album, is a bouncy, sparkly tune, and "Glamour Profession" is very groovy. The title song is more laid-back, but has marvelous melody to it. "Time Out Of Mind," the closest Steely Dan get to "rocking out" on this album, is a terrific toe-tapper, and arguably the best tune from the album. "My Rival" is a cool smooth-groover, and the finale, "Third World Man," with it's feeling of calm, is a tranquil, peaceful gem for Walt & Don to exit with. Thankfully, "Gaucho" was NOT the last we'd ever see from Steely Dan.

DONALD FAGEN THE NIGHTFLY 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP
Mastered for Vinyl by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios from the Original Master Tapes!
Steely Dan's Donald Fagen and his 1982 Album The Nightfly! Pressed on Premium High-Quality 180 Gram Vinyl and featuring "I.G.Y." and "New Frontier".
Released in 1982, this was Fagen’s first album project post-Steely Dan. Marking a considerable departure from his earlier work, The Nightfly eschewed that outfit’s ironic distance in favor of autobiographical intimacy. The album, one of the best-produced ever, was recorded with the painstaking attention to detail that was such a part of Steely Dan. In fact, Fagen used the same top session players.
"Everyone does play "I.G.Y." It's become the "Freebird" of pro audio - visit a linecheck at a major concert venue or a speaker demo at AES or InfoComm, and those familiar strains will turn up sooner or later. It's a well-recorded song, to be sure, which is why it's always used to illustrate a system's "tight low end" or "crystal-clear mids" or, to be honest, any other detail they want to point out." - Clive Young, Pro Sound News
"Continuing in the smooth pop-jazz mode favored on the final Steely Dan records, The Nightfly is lush and shimmering, produced with cinematic flair by Gary Katz; romanticized but never sentimental, the songs are slices of suburbanite soap opera, tales of space-age hopes (the hit "I.G.Y.") and Cold War fears (the wonderful "The New Frontier," a memoir of fallout-shelter love) crafted with impeccable style and sophistication." - Jason Ankeny, allmusic
Produced by was done by Gary Katz (Can't Buy A Thrill, Gaucho) and engineered by Roger Nichols (Steely Dan, John Denver, Beach Boys and many more!). Many of the musicians on The Nightfly had also played on previous Steely Dan records, including Jeff Porcaro, Rick Derringer and Larry Carlton. Similar to the Aja and Gaucho albums, a large number of studio musicians were employed, crediting 31 musicians as having played on the record!
This Classic Album received several Grammy nominations and produced two hit songs "I.G.Y." and "New Frontier".

DONALD FAGEN SUNKEN CONDOS 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION 2LP (Clear Vinyl 1ST EDITION)
180g Clear Vinyl 2LP Pressed at Record Industry!
Mastered by Scott Hull at Masterdisk!
Sunken Condos is Donald Fagen's fourth solo album for Warner Reprise. His first three solo albums, The Nightfly, Kamakiriad and Morph the Cat comprised the project known as the Nightfly Trilogy. Sunken Condos begins a new chapter in the creative evolution of this innovative artist, whose career is going strong after forty years.
The nine tracks on Sunken Condos were co-produced by Michael Leonhart and Donald. All but one track, an Ashkenazi recasting of Isasc Hayes' Out of the Ghetto, are Fagen originals. Some familiar names from the Steely Dan family of players are on hand (Jon Herrington, the Steely Dan horns, Freddie Washington) plus some new faces. The word is that, from now on, everything Donald does has got to be funky.
Donald Fagen, the Grammy award winning voice of Steely Dan, since the '80s has continued to make an impact.
“Sunken Condos is everything fans expect from the Steely Dan co-founder, keyboard mainstay and lead vocalist: wry humor, a look at relationships, a sense of unease and superb sound, with playing by a crack set of players.” - Mark Brown, MSN Music
“The band, especially guitarist Jon Herington, is predictably hot and smooth, Fagen's voice oily-sweet as ever... to this day, no one does booby-trapped boutique pop better.” - Will Hermes, Rolling Stone
“Sunken Condos is jazzy, bluesy and as musically precise as anything Fagen has recorded, with or without Steely Dan." - Michael Gallucci, Ultimate Classic Rock
"Sunken Condos boasts impressive musicianship. William Galison's harmonica adds a touch of sweetness to the proceedings while Michael Leonhart's vibes bring an eerie otherworldly chill... Fagen and Leonhart coax nice riffs out of pianos, clavinets, organs, and synthesizers. The 180-gram LP I listened to boasts remarkable clarity... The Cold War motif of 'Memorabilia' will resonate with Nightfly fans... 'Planet D'Rhonda'... its lush, airy soundscape ultimately won me over - that and the line about CPR." - Music 3.5/5, Sonics 4/5 - Jeff Wilson, The Absolute Sound, February 2013, p. 132
