Description
A check on other sites will show that you will probably need to pay over £250 for a ‘mint’ copy of this LP. Normally, the classical LP market requires discs to be flawless. However, in view of this LP’s rarity you have an opportunity here to bid for a copy with minor flaws – hence the low starting bid.
This is a rare Early Decca 1st pressing (or ED1) of this recording featuring Ruggiero Ricci (violin) with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Oiven Fjeldstad. Sleevenotes on the back are by Neville Marriner. The label on the disc has a wide silver band just above the centre and a circular groove approx 1cm in from the edge (Wide Band with groove: WBg). On the rim of the label at 10/11 o’clock are printed the words “ORIGINAL RECORDING BY”. The matrix numbers engraved on the run-out are: ZAL-4139-2E and ZAL-4140-1K. The centre label includes the text: “RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1958”. The outer sleeve is the original: flip-back, lightweight cardboard, laminated on the front. There is no blue/black border on the back. Disc and outer sleeve were both made in England. The inner sleeve is period Decca ffss printed paper with polythene liner.
The LP will be supplied with a protective 50g PVC sleeve. The record will be packaged in a commercial LP mailer made of corrugated cardboard, with additional bubble-wrap.

Condition of Disc After the disc has been wiped with a damp cloth, it plays beautifully with negligible loss of high-end frequency and only occasional faint surface crackle. The disc is flat and the playing surfaces are glossy and clean, although they would probably benefit from machine-cleaning. Centre labels are free of writing, sticky labels or stains; and show only minor signs of "squirreling" around the centre hole. In bright light there can be seen five or six faint, non-sounding marks on the playing surfaces. Overall, I have graded the disc conservatively as ‘VG’ (Record Collector).
Condition of Sleeve The 53 year-old sleeve shows clear shelf/handling wear, particularly at the corners, and the unlaminated back is a little grubby. There are a number of small creases and some ring wear. The laminate is starting to lift in places. On the back, there is a tear in the opening edge, about 3mm long.
