Description

Mega Rare Original 1970 UK Harvest Records Beautiful TRUE 1st Pressing (A1//B1 Matrix - No EMI Logo!) 'Barrett' The 2nd (and last) Album by the Awesome Syd Barrett!!! Absolutely Stunning 1st Press Thick & Chunky Vinyl Which Plays Beautifully!!! This is the BEST Example I have Ever Seen!!! Complete with 1st Press Garrod & Lofthouse Flipback Sleeve!!! Complete with Original Harvest Ads Inner Sleeve!!! Very, Very Rare as a True UK 1st Pressing and Almost impossible to Find in This Kind of Vinyl Condition!!!

One of the rarest and most sought-after albums ever issued on Harvest Records. And being the true earliest 1st pressing, this is how this album is supposed to sound; clear and punchy, straight from the master-press. You are bidding on Syd's masterpiece; 'Barrett'. What makes this album so absolutely essential for any Pink Floyd/ Psych fan is that it is the monster-rare UK Harvest 1st pressing, with NO EMI logo on the centre labels (all re-presses had the EMI box logo just above the Harvest logo), A1//B1 Matrix, Original UK flip-back Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve and original correct 'EMI Ads' inner sleeve - it is the FULLY COMPLETE 1st ever UK pressing. What's more this record is in stunning visual and aural condition. Please check below for a detailed description of this amazing record. This is one of the best psychedelic LP's ever made, and to find the true 1st pressing is almost impossible today. On the rare occasions it does show up it is NEVER in this condition, believe me, you will not find a better example!!!  Looking at this record still amazes me as much as it did when I first purchased it some years ago as part of a mint- private Beefheart/Harvest -psych collection. These were all records that were brought from new and played just once or twice by the original owner. I have gone into greater detail below but all you really need to know is that this vinyl is in beautiful condition. It just has one or two light paper lines and that's it -  it's as simple as that!!!  It is by far the best copy of this album that I have ever seen, let alone had the pleasure of owning. Check it out below... Again, I cannot stress how rare this album is to find as a true Extra Thick & Chunky UK Harvest 1st press of 'Barrett' with A1//B1 Matrix , Laminated Garrod & Lofthouse Flipback Sleeve and original Ads inner!!!

As I mentioned above, this is one of my favourite LP's of all time. They do not come any more influential than this record, it record was, in my humble opinion, the real peak of Syd's career. Forget the hype and myth surrounding Syd, and equally, forget how he lived out his reclusive days in Cambridge, UK.  Just kick back and listen to this record to hear what an amazing singer/songwriter he really was. If you are just getting into Syd, this is by far the best place to start. What you will find will be an outpouring of tracks that are more accessible and more hook-laden than anything Pink Floyd ever recorded as a band. Tracks that are so full of character and charm that I defy anyone not to take them to their heart on the first listen. And although helped, and sometimes carried, by Dave Gilmour during the recording process (Syd was in very frail health by this time), Syd's (and only Syd's) personality literally oozes from every track on this record. Although Barrett probably would not have been able to complete this record without the help of Gilmour, Gilmour must take immense credit for not imposing his own style on this record; he left  Syd's star to shine brightly throughout this LP, after which it sadly faded forever. Anyway, enough of my misty eyed rambling about this record, let's get on to the condition...

The Classic 1st press yellow 'no EMI box' Harvest Record centre labels are in stunning condition with NO Tears, NO Peeling, NO Grubbyness, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! There are virtually NO spindle lines, only the faintest traces that can only be seen when angling the record towards light (by holding the record angled toward a window). The gramophone rims containing the all important 1st press matrix's are MINT-!!! What can I say about this vinyl  - It is stone cold MINT- with NO Scratches, No scuffing, NO blemishes of any kind at all! save for one or two light hairlines that in no way affect play!!! This disc looks like it came off the master press this morning!!! Impossible for a 1979 UK Harvest 1st pressing of this record!!! It has all the deep shine a newly pressed record that as only ever been played once or twice before by the original owner and once only by me to play-grade on my own Linn turntable!!! I am very pleased to state that this is a record that also plays as good as it looks!!! It plays so quietly that you really get the full benefit of the beautiful crispness and punch of this 1st pressing!!! There is NO between track crackle, save for a little during the muted electric guitar into to 'Baby Lemonade', and that's pretty much it. The thick quality pressed chunky 1960's vinyl looks and feels great (it is very heavy!). I have no hesitation whatsoever with grading this vinyl as a strong Excellent!!! Its as simple as that!!! (suitable for the highest grade vinyl collection - you will not find a better example!!).  The classic 1st press thickly laminated Garrod & Lofthouse flip-back sleeve is also in great condition!!! Whilst not Mint, it is shows very little of the grubbiness normally associated with this nr white sleeve. These 1st press sleeves always turn up totally worn out-looking nowadays with severe discolouration and damage to the spine, and with plenty of corner & edge wear, stains and ring wear (especially to the back). Suffice to say, they have not remained in prime condition over the years. However, this one fares much better than most. There are no nasty scribbles/stains or blemishes of any kind!!! It has very little discoloration!!! Impossible for this sleeve!! The laminate is also stunning, with a beautiful glossy sheen and NO cracking whatsoever save for one or two very light and very small laminate cracks the to spine!!! There are just a few very small creases coming out from the spine!!! It grades as Very Good+ at the very least (most would grade it much higher!!!) Importantly, it comes complete with its correct poly-lined Harvest ads inner sleeve with correct 'Patent No' and 'Made in Gt. Britain' text. This inner sleeve is a very cool item in itself, featuring 25+ obscure Harvest album covers by the likes of Kevin Ayres, The Battered Ornaments, Quatermass, Forest, Edgar Broughton, Roy Harper, Bakerloo, Alchemy and many more... It acts as a great reference point for anyone thinking of beginning a Harvest Records collection...The inner is perfect with NO creasing, and very little discolouration and NO writing/scribbles!!!!!! This really is a one off chance to own a superb example of this the scarce UK Press of this rare and classic Harvest LP. Don't miss this one as copies like this only come around very rarely!!! Check out our feedback and bid with confidence as this is a no reserve auction with a very low starting price!

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards.  If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...

Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.

We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
