Simon Dupree and the Big Sound Without Reservations
Released in 1967

Hailing from Portsmouth (some misinformed websites state them as being Scottish!), Simon Dupree and the Big Sound were predominantly a 60s R&B band playing the local clubs and circuit. They were best known for “I see the Light” their first single, although it was “Kites” their follow up which firmly put them on the map much to the dismay of the band who viewed the tracks’ light psychedelic tone as being largely out of character and not reflecting the band who wanted to remain as a soul group. They made one album, “Without Reservations” before splitting in 69 although the Shulman brothers went onto to form Gentle Giant.
Sleeve: laminated flipback front cover printed by Garrod & Lofthouse which retains its sheen, small creases on spine which is fully intact and readable. All edges remain true and square, some rubbing caused by shelfwear. Small split in bottom edge and sellotape residue on opening edge. Back (non-laminated) sleeve shows age related signs of handling. Sounds worse than it is (see photos) overall sleeve is VG/VG+
Labels: Classic Yellow/Black Parlophone labels - light spindle trials (see photos) graded VG+
Vinyl: Visually looks EX, although under light there are a couple of light surfaces scuffs, (non-feelable) and small feint lines from sleeve removal graded solid EX- or better
Audio: Plays through clean, lovely rich 60’s Mono R&B sound - no hisses, skips, sticks, pips, pops, crackle or static graded Ex (played on Project carbon - blue Ortofon)

I have been a collector for 45+ years the few records I sell are either the results of upgrades or duplicates or a bit of thinning every now and again as this is. If anything is not as expected, please contact me straight away, and I will do everything to resolve any problems without argument.
I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - as an additional guide:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
