Taste : On The Boards A1 / B1 1st Press

This first pressing comes from the same Rolling Stones' collection that I purchased recently and the clarity and depth of the audio is very impressive indeed - barely any interference.  The textured cover is also very clean.  Of course featuring the inimitable Rory Gallagher both the vinyl and cover are in wonderful condition.

S1 is stunning overall and plays with great clarity and depth.  'What's Going On' is close to perfect with only a minor amount of barely audible static.  No actual interference at all.

'Railway And Gun' has a couple of very light ticks on the intro and then plays so clearly apart from one light click during the solo mid section and a minimal amount of very light static.

'It's Happened Before...' has a couple of very quiet ticks on the intro and a small number of light ticks during the first vocal section but they are hardly intrusive.  From that point on it plays wonderful clarity and precision.  The long bluesy instrumental is stunning with no interference at all and the final vocal is also flawless.

'If The Day Was Any Longer' is of the same standard with no ticks, clicks or pops - Near Mint for sure.

'Morning Sun' ends the side with near perfect audio.  With barely any static the playback is so 'clean' and there are no negatives.

'Eat My Words' on S2 is stunning throughout with no interference.  There is barely any 'background' just a couple of dust ticks and the audio has such depth.  A superb version!

The quiet intro on 'On The Boards' is faultless and it continues to play with outstanding quality.  The clarity here is just incredible, so many quiet sections and yet there is no intrusion on the audio whatsoever.  This has to be the most impressive version I have ever heard and every note is just so clean and precise.  This is Mint- it is that good.

'If I Don't Sing I'll Cry' maintains this standard and plays with great clarity and depth from the first groove to the last.

The acoustic intro on 'See Here' has no 'background' and the first vocal is also perfect.  It continues to play beautifully and with only 3/4 dust ticks this is audio of the highest standard.  Easily Near Mint although perhaps worthy of a higher grade.

'I'll Remember' ends the album with barely any static on the intro and from then on plays much like the rest of the side - with great depth and clarity and again not a single click or pop.  A couple of mega quiet static 'moments' but a spectacular version to end with for sure.

Visual grading  

The vinyl has no marks or scratches and still retains a glossy look with no dulling/cloudy areas.  S1 is very clean with only a small number of very faint hairlines.  The same applies to S2 but there are 3/4 hairlines that are a little more obvious.  However, they have no affect on the superb audio.  I guess an Ex+ visual grade for S1 and VG+ for S2 but as above the audio grading is much better than that!  There is some spindle wear but not an excessive amount.

The Cover and Inner

The original textured cover is in excellent condition with only minimal shelf wear.  The top edge has no rubbing and the bottom edge only a small amount.  The thin pinched spine has no wear and all four corners are in excellent shape with only a small amount of wear on the top two.  The opening edge has only minimal handling wear.  The front and back cover are unmarked and in superb condition.  The 'Plastic Bags...' inner has no side splits or tears, just minor creasing and only a faint age related fading on the top edges.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I grade according to "Record Collector" guidelines.
