Description
Here we have a copy of the rare mono album from 1965 by Van Morrison & Them, known as The "Angry" Young THEM! as it says on the back cover. Firstly, let me say that I bought this some time ago as a second hand copy and it sounded pretty rough due to all the muck and fingerprints that had been in the grooves for so many years. I have since washed the record and played it through on 45 rpm for a lot of times to get the muck out and have improved the sound no end. It still has a bit of crackle and the odd click here and there but is a lot better. There is a mild kink at the edge of the vinyl which gives a hiss before the music starts but it doesn't intrude once the boys get going. It's obvious that the record has been played a lot by the markings on the labels around the centre holes and there are scuffs and surface marks but the disc now plays through great and there are no skips, jumps or any of that rubbish. To my mind, this is better than any of Morrison's solo work as it has more balls and real soul to it. Take a look at the photos; you'll see that the front cover has staining across the picture which I take to be the residue of a bit of water damage. There is also sellotape around the edges, the name ANDREW TAYLOR on the back and the inner bag, some staining again and a tear at the opening. All that aside, it is a flipback cover with the message Laminated with 'Clarifoil' made by British Celanese and Printed in England by James Upton Ltd. Birmingham & London. The number of the disc is LK 4700 and the dead wax matrices are ARL-6819-4A and ARL-6820-3A. This is now quite a scarce commodity and commands a high price, but I am starting it here at less than 10% of its current Mint value. I would class the condition as Good, using the Record Collector grading scale. Any further questions, please feel free to ask. Crank it up Joe, it's back to Mono!
