Description
Up for auction is the elaborate blue-vinyl four-LP set “The Fred Astaire Story.” The 1952 release was issued in a limited edition of 1384 copies, of which this is number 1084. The set has been personally autographed by Fred Astaire.
In addition to the records, the set includes several black-and-white photos taken at the recording sessions; a “portfolio of drawings and pochoir” by David Stone Martin titled “Impressions of ‘The Astaire Story’ ”; and “Afterthoughts” by Fred Astaire.
Musical selections include “The Carioca,” “Change Partners,” “Cheek to Cheek,” “The Continental,” “Dancing in the Dark,” “Fascinating Rhythm,” “A Fine Romance,” “A Foggy Day,” “I’m Building Up to an Awful Let-Down,” “I’m Putting All My Eggs in One Basket,” “Isn’t This a Lovely Day,” “I’ve Got My Eyes on You,” “I Concentrate on You,” “I Love Louisa,” “I Used to Be Color Blind,” “I Won’t Dance,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “Lovely to Look At,” “A Needle in a Haystack,” “New Sun in the Sky,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” “Night and Day,” “No Strings,” “Not My Girl,” “Oh, Lady Be Good,” “Puttin’ On the Ritz,” “So Near and Yet So Far,” “Steppin’ Out With My Baby,” “ ’S Wonderful,” “They All Laughed,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” “Top Hat, White Tie and Tails,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” and “You’re Easy to Dance With.” The records are in very good condition. The gold lettering on the spine of the album cover is faded. Winning bidder pays for insured shipping and handling. California residents add appropriate sales tax; everyone else adds no sales tax, but you don't get to live in California, so there!
