Beatles for Sale is the fourth studio album by The Beatles, released on 4 December 1964 and produced by George Martin for Parlophone. The album marked a turning point in the evolution of the Lennon–McCartney partnership, John Lennon particularly now showing interest in composing songs of a more autobiographical nature. "I'm a Loser" shows Lennon for the first time coming under the influence of Bob Dylan, who he met for the first time in New York while on tour, on 28 August 1964
The album hit the UK number one spot and retained that position for 11 of the 46 weeks that it spent in the Top 20. Beatles for Sale did not surface as a regular album in the US until 1987. In its place was Beatles '65 which featured eight songs from Beatles for Sale, plus the A and B-side of "I Feel Fine" and "I'll Be Back" from the UK's A Hard Day's Night album. Beatles '65 enjoyed a nine week run at the top of the US charts beginning in January 1965.
The Beatles began their first studio session for Beatles for Sale on 8 June 1964, only seven days after their last session for A Hard Day's Night. Prior to the new recording sessions, the band toured Australia and New Zealand (after a two-show night in Hong Kong), played concerts in the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden and made several television, radio and live concert appearances in the UK. Gram Parsons has noted the strong country influence on "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party". "I'm a Loser" is also notable for being perhaps the first Beatles song to directly reflect the influence of Bob Dylan, thus nudging folk and rock a little closer together toward the folk-rock explosion of the following year.
Most of the album's recording sessions were completed in a three-week period beginning on 29 September. Beatles for Sale featured eight original Lennon and McCartney works. At this stage in their collaboration, Lennon's and McCartney's song writing was highly collaborative; even when songs had a primary author the other would often contribute key parts, as with "No Reply" where McCartney provided a middle-eight for what was otherwise almost entirely a Lennon song.
The album was released in the United Kingdom on 4 December 1964. On 12 December, it began a 46-week-long run in the charts, and a week later knocked A Hard Day's Night off the top of the charts. After seven weeks, the album's time at the top seemed over, but Beatles for Sale made a comeback on 27 February 1965, by dethroning The Rolling Stones and returning to the top spot for a week. The album's run in the charts was not complete either; on 7 March 1987, almost 23 years after its original release, Beatles for Sale re-entered the charts briefly for a period of two weeks shortly after the first CD release on 26 February 1987.
The relatively downbeat mood of the songs on Beatles for Sale was reflected in the album cover, which shows the Beatles in an autumn scene photographed at Hyde Park, London by Robert Freeman. With 'Beatles for Sale', The Beatles created an album some critics, such as Allmusic, found to be a stepping stone "from Merseybeat to the sophisticated pop/rock they developed in mid-career", and has proved itself as a classic and hugely collectable piece.
ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:
Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO - sound quality throughout. This great record plays up to the visual and audio grading and beyond and plays at the top of the vinyl spectrum. Stunning Museum quality audio throughout!
BEATLES FOR SALE includes a complex and varied collection of music, and is a relatively sensitive piece of vinyl, extremely hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound, even on musically complex and busy tracks like, 'Rock N Roll Music.' This pressing has strong undistorted audio, with bright clear sound. There is certainly NO dominant interference, and NO loud pops, clicks or distortion. It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity!
Superb sound with clear audio, every track has been tested and I could find no obvious sound blemishes. I will give a detailed account:
'No Reply' bursts in with superb clear audio and near silent run ins. Bright loud sound, there are no pops or clicks, no surface sound and certainly not a hint of distortion. The slightly low key 'I'm a Loser' plays with perfect separation. There is not a single pop between tracks and barely a light static tic detectable. This track can be a real test for Beatles for Sale, with multi layering but also a sparseness, it plays superbly. Barely any detectable static and no loud pops or clicks. 'Babies in Black' sounds great with barely any detectable static at the end of the track. 'Rock N Roll Music' opens with a very clean intro, amazingly clear and bright. No pops or clicks, and NO distortion, in fact I can safely say this vinyl plays without a hint of distortion or light buzzing anywhere. There is barely any detectable static either. 'I'll Follow The Sun' plays superbly, incredibly clean sound, with no pops clicks or even static tics. 'Mr Moonlight', sounds great, again with no pops or clicks, just great clear music, all the tracks that make up this song are crystal clear . 'Kansas City' rounds off side one and sounds wonderful with bright clear audio, superb.
Side 2. begins with the classic upbeat 'Eight Days A Week'. It plays through brilliantly with no pops or clicks, and again no obvious or even detectable static apart from some very slight sound during the run in grooves. 'Words of Love' plays beautifully, with barely a hint of very light occasional static, and no sound interference's.
'Honey Don't' and 'Every Little Thing' sound great, with barely any (if any at all) surface static and no pops or other sound interruptions, just one light tic between tracks. 'I Don't Want To Spoil the Party' and the classic 'What Are you Doing' both sound superb, with bright clear sound. There are no light tics in the middle section of 'What Are you Doing'. The final 'Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby', the last track on this great vinyl, rounds of the album superbly, with amazingly, perfect clear loud sound.
This is a stunning early press of Beatles for Sale, with no loud clicks or pops anywhere and certainly no distortion, buzzing or other dominant interference's. Barely any light detectable static anywhere at all. Great music with great clarity, this is a very rare piece and would be virtually impossible to better. The audio clarity is just flawless. A great all round example of this great vinyl.
I would give this great record an audio grading of NEAR MINT to MINT.
THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING
A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. The record has great shine, with no scratches, just a few ultra light handling marks and minimal paper removal marks. In daylight it looks unmarked, there are only the faintest tiny handling marks only. This is a really great example, clear grooves that deliver brilliant audio clarity.
This original MONO pressing gives a great authentic Beatles listening experience. Hard to believe this great vinyl is from the 60's! A true collectors gem!
Graded at NEAR MINT.
THE LABELS
These early MONO Press Parlophone labels are in NEAR MINT Condition, with no sticker marks or writing, and barely any spindle traces on either label. There are a couple of small spindle mark on each side only, and they are light. A great pair.
Graded at NEAR MINT.
VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:
Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.
THE COVER
Out of all of the original Beatles pressing Belts for Sale has to be the flimsiest and hardest to find in decent condition. This great vinyl comes complete with the rare original issue cover, in stunning condition. Virtually unmarked, I doubt this could be bettered.
These Beatles for Sale covers are extremely prone to wear, even more than many of the classic Beatles vinyls from the sixties. The laminate is prone to cracking and lifting, with serious ring wear and destruction to the edges. The unlaminated inner is usually heavily marked and the spine is nearly always flattened, worn, torn and un readable. The unusual design meant the spines nearly always ripped at the ends. Even modestly worn examples have tears at the joins of the spine. Not this one!
There is barely any light scuffing to the corners, and no rubbing along the edges, certainly nothing that noticeable. The opening edges are very square and un frayed, with none of the common small splits at the opening. The white areas are very white, with no obvious blemishes. The back cover is nice and clean, as is the inner gatefold, with NO ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers. The spine is incredibly square and un broken, (there are a couple of light creases only) and the text is completely in tact.
A great example. All round, this is a really TOP cover that would be very hard to better.
Graded at EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT.
THE INNER
This classic copy comes with the Original UK Emitex inner sleeve, with NO splits on any of the sides, and NO splits or frays at the top, and NO staining, as clearly seen in the images. A stunning example with some light creasing only.
Grades at EXCELLENT.
RARITY
EARLY YELLOW AND BLACK MONO PRESSINGS in playable condition as becoming very scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound.
The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this is a superb example, with no cracks or serious marks. Finding a great cover like this, with a heavy piece of vinyl, fantastic!
FINDING AN ORIGINAL MONO PRESSING, with ULTRA CLEAN LABELS and TOP AUDIO THROUGHOUT, and an original 'SQUARE SPINE' cover, MAKES THIS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO OWN AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE OF MUSICAL HISTORY in GREAT CONDITION.
A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A GENUINE PIECE OF 20th CENTURY VINYL AND A GREAT PIECE OF MUSICAL HISTORY.

We aim to describe all records as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:
Highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and what we always aim for. We only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance; super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest pressing you will find occasional static or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and we advise a light clean between plays for optimal performance.
