THE BEATLES
HELP!
ORIGINAL 1st UK MONO PRESS FROM AUGUST 1965
Catalogue no. PCS 3075
Yellow and Black Parlophone Labels
Master Matrices XEX 549-2/ XEX 560-2
This is a 1st pressing from August 1965.
It is The Beatles 5th studio album and the soundtrack to the film Help!
It is the first variation label type, with chunky sans serif block capital lettering for the song titles on the record label, with each song starting on a new line. The credit indicator * to the right of the song 'I Need You' is spaced away from it. The layout, font, and text alignment on this label is how it appeared when Help LP's were first released, making this a Day One label pressing before any changes were made.
The Sleeve:
1st & original Flipback sleeve in Very Good Condition.
A clean and neat sleeve, and the laminate is completely intact without discoloration, the edges and corners don't have any storage wear but there are some tiny pockets of storage wear on the opening side. No rippling, no splits, no repairs, no writing, no sticker/ sticker residue.
A couple of faint creases but the sleeve and the iconic front pictorial looks smooth and sleek.
All text clear and bright against the background on the reverse.
Printed & made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents Pending.
Inner Sleeve :
This is the correct original EMI Emitex 'Made In England' fully intact tracing paper inner lined, light paper outer lined sleeve. In Excellent condition, no splits and no interior seam wear.
The Vinyl: Very Good Plus Overall
The vinyl surfaces retain a clean black bright gloss with no areas of dulling with a bright black sheen.
No marks such as smudges or dinks on either side, and has clean grooves with no groove wear.
Both sides have several superficial hairline marks on the surface, a few of which are visible in normal light but mainly noticeable under with the vinyl held angled towards. The surfaces are very smooth and fresh looking.
The record lays completely flat on the turntable, with no warps.
Manufactured on robust heavy sixties vinyl weighing at 165 grams.
Labels are Excellent.
Text is clear and bright, the perimeter area around the centre spindle locator is neat and free from wear, spindle line traces can be seen but are are not heavy on the label.
KT tax code from the mid-sixties is embossed. SOLD IN U.K. text across label and
The Gramophone Co. Ltd text around rim.
The text for the song titles is the day of release San Serif font which was quickly changed to Times New Roman. The asterisk * by 'I Need You' spaced away from it.
The Audio: Excellent
Plays nicely from start to finish with nothing that can be called a distortion or detraction to the original audio. Track change/ intro grooves are quiet, and if listened to very closely some light static on some near the starts and ends of each side. Full body of bass and definition and clarity.
There are no background noises or audio detractions that overcome, such as crackling, ticking, skipping, pops, or sticks.
This is a very playable record and one which does not come up for sale on the very first label variation type often.
.................................................................
This LP will be housed in a new thick PVC sleeve as shown and delivered in a professional cardboard LP mailer with cardboard stifferners.
A plain generic inner sleeve will house the record and the original will be placed separately to prevent tears during delivery.
I have used the Rare Record Collector Grading system in describing aspects of this record and grade conservatively.
Happy to refund on return if not satisfied.
