THE BEATLES LOVE ME DO / PS I LOVE YOU 1962 PARLOPHONE 45-R 4949
On offer is THE BEATLES 45 rpm entitled LOVE ME DO c/w P.S. I LOVE YOU released in the UK on the red PARLOPHONE label Parlophone 45-R 4949 in 1962. The technical information about this Beatles 45s identifies it as a first pressing as follows -
· It has ‘The Parlophone Co. Ltd’ credit in upper-lower case.
· It has the ‘RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1962" label text.
· Matrix numbers are – Love me do: 7XCE17144-1N P.S. I love you: 7XCE17145-1N (The A side matrix is known as the ‘Ringo on drums & no tambourine’ version.
· Tax code to both run off grooves is MPZT.
· Stamper codes are – Love me do 1 GT P.S. I love you 1 GH
· This example has the words - MADE IN GT. BRITAIN – under the £ logo.
· It correctly does NOT have the ‘Sold in UK’ credit.
· The sleeve is the ORIGINAL Parlophone sleeve – known now as a Type A Sleeve - distinguished by the following features…. It has the multi coloured lines and (at the bottom of the sleeve) a small box on one side with the – £ logo and THIS RECORD MUST BE PLAYED – text. On the other side (again at the bottom of the sleeve) it has a large box with the – E.M.I. RECORDS LIMITED - text (see scans)
The disc is in VERY GOOD condition – the vinyl has some minor surface marks but nothing major and certainly nothing that affects play or its overall appearance. It is a nice clean copy that plays with a small amount of background surface noise audible when test played on my hi-fi. It has extremely nice clear labels with no writing - The A side label in particular is in superb visual condition (see scan). The condition of the original sleeve is EXCELLENT – the disc and sleeve have been kept in a plastic sleeve in my collection for over 30 years which has prevented deterioration of the sleeve.
