1963 4TH Mono Pressing
1st Matrix - 1N/ -1N
Sleeve:
Very Good condition. A good, sturdy solid original Gold sleeve (the Angus McBean photo credit being aligned to the far right starting under the last ‘s’ in ‘Songs’). Neat fold-overs fully intact. A bright glossy front pictorial with minor laminate creases. No rips or tears but has edge wear and roughness to the spine. The rear panel has an address which has been rubbed out at some point in the past, but is overall still clean and white.
Inner Sleeve: Original EMI poly inner sleeve completely intact.
Vinyl: In Very Good condition. Has some light hairlines revealed under bright light which are superficial to the surfaces i.e. nothing obtrusive, and certainly nothing that can be considered a scratch, nothing at all feel-able. The surfaces still project a bright jet black pressing sheen all over. There is no groove wear, warps, scuffs or actual scratches. It’s not perfect vinyl but it is very respectable, very clean, and will have no problems.
Heavy vinyl at 165 grams.
The Labels: Very Good. Some play-use evident in terms of a light spindle line traces but still very neat and a removed name label.
Has the rare early ZT tax code usually reserved for some of the previous Please Please Me pressings.
The Audio: Plays with warm mono bass and lucid detail commensurate with these earlier heavy pressings. Has audible tics/ clicks, only really noticeable in some of the run-in’s and the run-out’s, but not over the main body of the music. No crackle, pops, skips, jumps or sticks or unwanted noise. Plays smoothly on both sides overall a very good plus audio.
Very early mother & stampers
Side 1: 2 RP
Side 2: 1 RG
Overall a very early true 4th press with no ‘Recording First Published’ text on the labels. Would have been pressed alongside the 3rd pressings in my opinion.
