Description
Hello and welcome to one of my auctions! I am a record collector for over 15 years now and I think it’s about time to sell a couple records to make some room and pass it on to another collector. This week’s auctions feature my Beatles, Rolling Stones and some progressive records that are form my own personal collection, so here we go!
On offer, an extremely rare 3rd UK MONO pressing of The Beatles – Please Please Me on the YELLOW / BLACK Parlophone label, cat. no. PMC 1202, with the rare extra 33 1/3 credit behind the matrix number on the label. This third pressing of was actually the first Beatles album that was pressed on the legendary YELLLOW / BLACK label.
The record is in VG condition; there are quite some non-sounding hairlines, a sounding scratch on the song “Chains” on side 1 and another sounding scratch on the song “Baby It’s You” and continues in “Do You Want to Know a Secret” on side 2. The labels are in VG condition as well, there are many spindle marks and some wear around the spindle hole. The Tax Code is MT and can be found on side 2, the matrix numbers have the 1N / 1N endings.
The cover, an E.J. Day printed one, is in VG condition; on the front there is some wear on the opening edge, the lower left hand corner also has some wear and on the back there is a piece missing from the upper flipback. The record comes with an original EMITEX inner sleeve, which looks in VG+ condition; there is only a bottom split of approx. 2.5 inches.
This is an extremely rare 3rd pressing of the Please Please Me album by the Beatles, which was pressed straight after the deletion of the Gold / Black label in April 1963. Although the label design had changed, someone at the label printing department forgot to set the type setting for this new Yellow / Black design and left the RPM indication right behind the matrix numbers on both sides. As the quality check at the EMI pressing plant was very strict, there were only a few (not more than 500) copies that got passed, resulting that this pressing with the extra 33 1/3 credit is even rarer than a Gold / Black copy.
Although not in Mint condition, this is the rarest Please Please Me Mono copy ever made. This is a unique opportunity to complete your life-time Beatles record collection! A must have for all Beatles label collectors! Happy Bidding!
