Original UK 3rd Press Stereo LP

Parlophone (PCS 3042)

Rare original UK 3rd press Stereo on the Parlophone Yellow & Black label. This was the first stereo pressing to be made on the Yellow & Black label, the previous two stereo pressings being on the Black and Gold label. One of the rarest Please Please Me UK pressings. It has No "Sold in the UK...." or "Recording first published..." text. Has "The Parlophone Co Ltd" text in upper case. Comes housed in the Ernest J Day front laminated sleeve with square flipbacks, large "Stereo" & Angus McBean credit. This sleeve is very early & was also used for Black and Gold copies. Both sleeve & record are in vg+ condition, an acceptable copy for this album with really nice playback, but obviously nor for the Mint collectors.

This copy is made even more desirable for having a 1/G Mother & Stamper on one side & 1/P on the other. This means that this album was one of the very first Stereo Yellow and Black label copies off the press! You could hold out for a better condition copy, but to be honest the opportunity to buy a 1G Mother & Stamper in better condition is unlikely to present itself for a long time. Considering the amount of these completely trashed or in landfill sites i would have thought this was a particulary rare opportunity to grab a 1G with great playback.

Matrix:

Side 1) YEX 94-1 (1 P)

Side 2) YEX 95-1 (1 G)

The sleeve is in vg+ condition, still solid & certainly not trashed like many are. There is no writing, no tears and no ringwear! There are two small seam splits top & bottom by the sleeve opening, but they are very small. The corners are rubbed & there is some very light discolouration to the back which is still relatively clean. Also some flipback wear & two pin holes top & bottom. No nasty surpises here, a solid example.

The labels are in vg+ condition with some spindle wear and some spindle traces. There is no writing, stains or tears.

The vinyl is also in vg+ condition. We have given a + due to the superb playback. Still has some original sheen with several light hairlines on each side, one of which has a tiny feelable bit at the end which does not sound at all on playback. There is some light scuffing as well, a lot of which are light paper scuffs. Certainly not a trashed copy, but not for the excellent or mint collectors.

The grade for playback on our sensitive equipment is at least excellent +, so to be cautious i will say excellent condition playback. We have cleaned it on a professional cleaning machine & played right through. There were no nasty clicks or hiss from groovewear. Playback was crisp & clear with just the following exceptions. Side one has light crackle during run in. Then just light crackle between tracks 5 and 6, and tracks 6 and 7. Side two had crackle during run in & also some very light crackle in part of Love me do. Then light crackle between tracks 2 and 3, 3 and 4 plus 5 and 6. Different set ups will of course be different, but as our set up is quite sensitive i cannot see this playing badly on any deck, i'm sure playback for you will be a pleasant experience.

Please note that this grading has nothing to do with the age of the record, we grade all records the same whether they are 40 years old or 4 days old. 

For the last 20 years we have been looking through 100's & even 1,000's of records every week, but we still only pull out a tiny percentage to sell on. 

Condition

Near Mint

Almost mint.Very minor paper scuffs and very little else can appear on the vinyl. This will most likely have occurred during packaging, or removing the record from the inner sleeve but obviously it had been handled with extreme care.Any flaw should be very hard to see. The cover should look as close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and/or age. Minor impressions to the cover (due to the outer edge of the vinyl resting inside) may be acceptable, however the artwork should be as close to perfect as can be.

Excellent

An excellent condition for vinyl will allow minor scuffs (Scuffs lay on top of the grooves) which are visible but only slightly.The wear should be minimal.The play should be close to perfect as well. Some impression to the cover (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear. Some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. The corners can show a little white, meaning slight wear. No seam splits or writing on the cover or taped repairs.

VG++

As Excellent but with a larger number of scuffs, maybe a couple of hairlines (very light scratch that can't be felt) or a couple of marks. Sound quality should still be very close to that of an Excellent record with only minor crackle in quiet segments only, NO scratches that can be felt. Cover as Excellent but there may be a small seam split on the cover, or a very minimal amount of writing like a name written in small writing or a number. A VG++ record should be an acceptable record to live with if you aren't looking to pay the price of a Near Mint copy.
