Description
From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional MINT- example of the iconic studio album by THE BEATLES titled "SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND", Catalogue Number PCS 7027. This is the rarer 1967 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the YELLOW & BLACK PARLOPHONE RECORD LABEL, with a near perfect 1st ISSUE GARROD & LOFTHOUSE LTD fully-laminated gatefold sleeve. Complete with the correct 1st issue CUT-OUT INSERT and RED & WHITE INNER SLEEVE. [The sleeve has internal flipbacks along the top and bottom edges. The record labels have "THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LTD…" and "SOLD IN U.K…" text. The matrix numbers are the earliest YEX 637-1 and YEX 638-1. The K/T tax code is embossed either side of the spindle hole on the Side 1 label].
The sleeve is in EX+ condition with only the lightest signs of wear and barely any creasing. There is really only one small crease worthy of mention which is near the back bottom opening corner. The front and back covers are simply beautiful with wonderful vibrant colours and unbroken lamination. The opening gatefold spread is pristine. The spine is in excellent shape with perfect text. Overall this is a near perfect sleeve which will be almost impossible to improve upon.
The top quality Parlophone record is in MINT- condition. It’s a solid 150g pressing which sits perfectly flat on the turntable. Both sides retain their "just pressed" shine and display only a few wispy sleeve-removal type surface marks under bright light. The yellow & black Parlophone labels are like new with only a modest number of short spindle traces each side. There is virtually no wear to the spindle hole. It is clear that the record has only received a few careful plays. The sound quality of the stereo Sgt Pepper 1st pressings is really something very special. Playback is very powerful and vibrant with wonderful tone and very impressive bass. Both sides play essentially as new, MINT- throughout. Please do not underestimate how difficult it is to find a perfect-playing stereo copy of Sgt Pepper's. I'm only letting this one go as I have recently been fortunate enough to acquire another equally fine copy.
The cut-out insert is in unmarked EX condition. This is the correct 1st issue insert which is made out of thick card. "Printed in England" text is printed in the bottom left corner.
The red & white psychedelic inner sleeve has a neat repair to one side edge and a few tiny nicks to the lead opening edge. It is otherwise in excellent shape.
Overall this is a magnificent and complete stereo 1st press copy of The Beatles' most iconic album.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
