THE BEATLES – WHITE ALBUM, 2rd PRESS, STEREO.

1968 PCS 7067/7068 -  APPLE RECORD LABEL.

AN ORIGINAL UK SECOND ISSUE IN 100% ORIGINAL CONDITION ‘SIDE LOADING’ STEREO COPY FEATURING A UNIQUE SEVEN DIGIT SERIAL NUMBER OF  ‘0108477’  AND A MISPRESSED RECORD LABEL.   THE RECORD SET EVEN INCLUDES ITS ORIGINAL WHITE PAPER SPACER FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHS.  

Not many of these second issue White Albums were produced, interesting to note that these second issues  STILL retained a SEVEN DIGIT serial number and the  publishing credits on the record labels for the George Harrison and Ringo Starr still appeared as  ‘Apple Publishing’.  The sleeve became a ‘side opener’ and the text on the labels, ‘Sold in the UK’  etc was removed.

It is  possible to trace the production history of these numbered second issue copies of the White Album due to the numbering of the sleeves.  It appears that  NO numbers exist under 100,000 or over 130,000, so it would appear that  just 30,000 of these second issues  were ever  pressed  between 1969 and 1970 !.

The record labels on this copy feature a misprint, on record Two, side Four,   the line of text,  ‘An EMI Recording’  appears  on  Two lines of text and in brackets !,  where  on the other three labels this text  appears on One line of text and with NO  brackets,  how odd !

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent++  condition, it is   fully laminated.     The very glossy  laminate has   an excellent finish.   It is almost to be expected that these sleeves over the years   ‘yellow’   with age but this one is still really white and fresh.  The four opening edges of the side opening sleeve are all in excellent condition.   On the front it has the wording  ‘ The Beatles ’  embossed and a unique individual SEVEN DIGIT SERIAL Number of 0108477.    The condition of the spine is just like NEW,  it is  very white and clean  and all the  text is  crystal clear  with  NO flaky laminate at all to be seen.   The sleeve still retains   excellent sharp corners  and it  creaks when opened.

INNER SLEEVES: are in near excellent condition and are the original period white sleeves that have  a  ‘ Patent 1125 555’   ref on.   The sleeve are still  very fresh and white in colour,    one of the sleeves has some rubbing edge  wear.     The sleeves   have NO tears , creasing,   stains   or  pen writing on.  

POSTER:   is in excellent+ condition and has remained fresh and  white in colour.     The poster is unusual as it  has  a ‘ glossy’   finish to it,  there are NO tears,   creasing,    stains,  pin holes,   sellotape or   Blu-tac   residue.

PHOTOS:  are in near MINT condition,  they look almost brand new,  made from  thick glossy paper they   look as if they have never been taken out of  the sleeve,  there are NO tears, stains,  pin holes,  sellotape or Blu-tac residue.   Unusually the record set EVEN comes with its original white paper spacer,  this is in excellent  condition,  it does have some slight age related marks  on it, but NO tears,  creasing or pen writing. 

VINYL: record One, side One is in excellent condition, side Two is  in very good+ condition.  Record Two is in very good+ condition,  the two records are made of the original  ‘thick and heavy’ vinyl and are very dark and glossy. The matrix nos. are YEX 709 - 1,   and  YEX 710 - 1,   YEX  711 – 2  and YEX  712 - 2.  The Mother/Stampers are:    ‘  6    G M D ’,   and  ‘7    G L P ’  and   ‘ 4    G L G’  and   ‘3     G  P L ’.

THE AUDIO:  on record One is excellent, on record Two it is very good+, there is some crackle to be heard  but this soon settles down,  I feel that the audio would improve with a professional clean as the playing surfaces  are so good.      The records lay flat on the turntable and play with NO sticking  or jumps.   

THE LABELS:  are in excellent condition,  Two sides  show  DARK green Apple colours.  As this is such an early pressing it still  lists the George and Ringo songs as  ‘Apple Publishing Ltd’.  Record Two, side Four has  a MISPRINT,  as  the text   ‘An EMI Recording’ appears on  Two  lines of text in brackets,    on the other Three labels this text appears  on One line of text with NO brackets !,  how odd.

Unfortunately as you will see from my feedback,   I have received One negative feedback recently.   This is due to the fact that I followed Ebay policy and reported  an Ebay member for non payment and in turn I have received this feedback !, while this Ebay member carries on trading unaffected !,    I am disgusted that Ebay has let this happen !

To fairly grade the condition of the record, I am using the official grading system from the Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
