THE BIRDLAND STORY (Roulette RB-2).

This rare 2-LP box set comes with an amazing 16-page booklet with the story of Birdland by Leonard Feather and dozens of rarely scene photographs. Three sides contain then new 1960 sessions by the John Coltrane Quartet with McCoy Tyner,Steve Davis and Billy Higgins (Side 1), the Lee Morgan Quintet with Wayne Shorter and Bobby Timmons (Side 2) and the Thad Jones Septet (Side 3). Side four contains 6 late '40s-eaarly '50s classics by Bud Powell, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie & Charlie Parker and Johnny Smith.

The original white-label-with multicolor-stripes LPs are mint and play flawlessly. The booklet (the real gem of the set) is in perfect condition and has a stamp Property of WINS at the top of the first page. The box has some cover wear and some fraying along the spine and in the corners. The name BRAD is written on the front cover in green marker.
